Having a avery bad day today. Morgan my four month old ALD was in the vet office all day and I still do not know what is wrong with her and they charged me $1000, Last night we went to bed as normal. She goes to sleep with us hand them in the middle of the night I put her in her bed next to mine. She was fine. I got up at 6am and she usually wants to follow me downstairts. She just laid still. I talked to her and she went back to sleep. I kept checking her and finally I told my husband I think she is sick. We carried her outside to make. She was very weak. She did nake sis and PoopieThen she layed down. We had to carry her into the house. Called the vet. Away for the weekend. They left a number to call. We did . We had to take her to the emergency hospital. I did notice her legs looked a little stiff. They said she must have hip dyspepsia. They said they needed xrays. We said yes. By we questioned ...why is she so weak? Could tell us yet. After an hour they called us in and said no hip dyspepsia. running blood test. We said ok? When they called us in again they said she might have broke her leg. I said what do you mean you said the exray was normal. They pulled up the exray again and said see thisx line it could be a brake. We need to send it to a radiologist for $75 dollars more but can not get the answer until tomorrow. But we coulde pay an exytra $85 TO FIND OUT in an hour.......Back to blood test they said all normal. When I started questioning why they did they tell us normal xray and twenty minutes later change their minds? It was the same xray. To make a long story short they said they doubt she has a broken leg from looking at the xray a third time. There is still no diagnosis and they sent us home with pain pills and antibiotics. I don't know what to do. I am going to bring her to my vet on Tuesday when she returns. Oh I forgot. They said she has a fever. I am so confused. One Thousand dollars and no answers. Sorry for this long post.

This sounds very much like when my bernedoodle, Yarrow, was not wanting to move and when she did she was stiff-legged. Her eyes told me she was in pain. I was beside myself not knowing if she had ingested something out in the woods the day before. I was so scared for her. I stayed up with her all night waiting for morning so I could take her to a vet. I called the emergency vet at the crack of dawn. That vet told me to bring her in during regular business hours and that they would run a myriad of tests. Instead, I decided to take her to a different clinic which opened half an hour sooner and had several vets on hand. They ran several tests for poisoning, illness, injury. To make a long story short, Yarrow, it seemed, had strained her back while playing with other dogs and it just didn't hit her until nighttime. She was given a shot of anti-inflammatory and some pain meds. With rest she made a full recovery. I don't know if this story will be of any help to you but I just thought I'd mention it since your story was so familiar to what we went through.

Did it cost you $1000? I felt like all they wanted was money. Your story did make me feel better. She has been playing with other puppies so maybe something did happen.

Fortunately for us, we dodged an inflated bill when we changed clinics. It was less than $250. Including medication. Before this event, we were with a different clinic which was all about profit. I thought it was a bit odd for the vet to be telling me all the tests they were going to run before even seeing how she looked. My instincts were good and we are happy with this new clinic. We've even had one trip in when Yarrow had a wound on her neck and the bill was Less than $50! I nearly fell over!
I'm really sorry that you have had to go through what you have. It's horrible when our fur babies are suffering and also terrible that there are those who seek to make unnecessary profit from it.
So sorry your baby is sick. It sounds like a horrible experience. Those emergency vets are usually pretty expensive and it's hard because the puppy can't tell you what's going on. Is she eating and drinking? If they are in pain they will act very sad and depressed at times. The challenge is to figure out what is causing the pain. The vet did the usual, X-rays and blood tests. Sure hope you get it figured out and she is on the mend soon.

...me too! Thanks for your reply, I appreciate it.

I'm so sorry! I hope she starts feeling better soon! Did she get into something she shouldn't have? I remember a while back you posted that she counter surfed, is there anything seeming out of place that she might have grabbed? Does she flinch or yelp if you touch her in any certian spots? When Moose was 4months old he randomly got a large groin hematoma and would almost refuse to walk, I took him to the vet and they gave him anti inflammatory meds and antibiotics for about a week. He also had a fever and they thought it could be as a result from the hematoma or a separate infection. That's so frustrating about the charges though, especially with no answers for you :(

Jessica....I have kept a close eye on her since the pill incident. Nothing is placed on the counter. The taller she gets the harder it is. She even pulled my tablecloth off when she wanted something. I heard a crash. That is what alerted me. She ran around with the cloth dragging between her legs. As proud as can be.  She makes us laugh everyday.

Haha that sounds so funny and something that my little one would do! How is she doing today? Much better I hope!

have them check for PANO a bone growth issue.  Our Lincoln had that recently and it took a visit to the U of PA vet hospital to be dignosed.   He grew faster than his bones and was very weak , would not eat, had a low grade fever, his back was hunched.  He still gets reoccurances too.  They say he will outgrow it by the time he is fully grown at about 18 months or so.  He was on pain pills and anti inflamatory. We had xrays twice, joint tap to rule out another issue.  Our vet reccommended we go to the U Of PA, since she suspected but needed a pet ortho to confirm.  the first xray was read by a local pet radiologist, but he did not know or see the issue.

It could be PANO ( it has a full name but this is the short version) since they thought they saw a small break, that the bones are not joined properly( for lack of a better way to discribe it) Good luck. so sad when they are not feeling like themselves.  After Lincoln was dignosed, it took another 2 weeks of meds to be back to normal.

I took her to our vet today and we took a few more xrays. The doctor can't pin point anything wrong other than inflammation in one of her joints. She checked all her joints and she is sensitive with all of them and cries if you touch them. We changed her medication and we will see what happens next. She
still can not walk. She is eating and drinking and made her first poop since friday morning. Thank you so much for asking about Morgan. It meant a lot to me.

She (My Vet) said exactly what you say about growing to fast. Thank you  for sharing all this information. Is your doodle and standard size and how much does Lincoln weight?

I'm glad she seems back to her self or is at least on the way there! I'm not sure how large Morgan is but Moose is very large and didn't have what Lincoln had but he did have growing pains, they stopped a couple weeks ago, he didn't seem as affected as either Morgan or Lincoln though, you could just tell he seemed a little stiff or sore and then was back to normal very quickly. That all started about a week or two before he had the hematoma. Hope this helps at all!

Lincoln is a standard size goldendoodle - he just turned 1 yr and is about 55 lbs.  Since he has been sick he is not a great eater and has stayed about the same weight for a few months.  We have to watch his excersice so he does not relapse.  We still give him his pain meds if necessary.

Glad Morgan is doing better and hopefully the meds will kick in.  Good luck for a speedy recovery.
