What fun! We have an RV and spend lots of time in it but haven't done full-time. We are in So. Cal and do flea and tick year round too. Let us know when you get to Southern California and we will have one of our So. Cal. Group get-togethers so all of our doodles can meet up.
:-}
While you are traveling in an RV, you have very close eyes on your dog, so I would not give them flea and tick prevention unless you start to see evidence of fleas or ticks. That is especially true if you will be sleeping with your dog. We do have some seasons when there are ticks (usually after the rain of which there has been too little lately) on the Central Coast of California, and once in a while an infestation of fleas, but we don't give our dogs flea and tick meds unless necessary. Do keep up with your heart worm and other worm meds, however. No other things to watch out for in this area except for normal doggie diseases (parvo spreads too easily).
I disagree. By the time you see fleas, you may already have an infestation. The preventatives are just that, they prevent it from happening in the first place.
I would opt for giving the meds year round just to be safe!
Have a fantastic trip!!!
I always give the flea/tick year round. I did find a tick on Vern last winter.
ABSOLUTELY give flea and tick year round if you are traveling. You can't possibly know what other dogs from others areas of the country are bringing into a camp ground nor can you know in every stop what the flea and tick population is in that particular area for that particular time of year! We did travel for 19 months from Florida to Alaska and we gave medications every month. Be sure to have all your dogs medical records with you as well, unless online, and a note in the car/RV with directions of what to do in the case of an accident and who is to be notified to come take care of the dog.
