Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Ok so I had both the boys with me at Petco today stocking up on toys and we met the cutest multigen goldendoodle- or so the owner thinks (she seemed confused when I asked her what the parents were, should have been my first clue this would be not normal). Anyways, she was truly adorable and her owner was nice and asked me about my boys and everything seemed like a typical "pet store interaction".

Then out of left field she told her her puppy was 6months old so she should be going into heat soon and she was planning on breeding her and oh by the way can she and Moose (6months) be bred together because she thinks she's wants to breed Golden Mountian Doodles. I haven't heard of these but apparently this is a Bernedoodle (Bernese Mountian dog x poodle, which is what Loki and Moose are) crossed with a GD. I must have looked shocked and maybe even angry, I've never been good at hiding facial expressions, because she tired again in a more gentle way and when I finally found my voice I just said Moose was already fixed and she should really look into breeding more seriously because it isn't a fun hobby, it's a job with responsibilities.

There are so many issues with this situation and I don't even know where to begin but my first thought was "WT*! I'm not "pimping out" my baby!!!"

Sorry for the vent but I figured there would be someone on here who would either get a laugh out of this or had a similar story or would be pissed off or would just roll their eyes and shake their head. I was all of those which made for a super awkward check out.

Thanks all!

I would have been shocked too. People can be weird sometimes. There are times you wished you would have kept your mouth shut.

I love when people have no clue who their dog's parents were, but want to breed. *sigh*

Not only that, 6 months old, first heat=disaster, if bred that young.

lol! Yes she doesn't know her own puppies genetics but she knew my boys- just plain weird.

Jess, I'm sorry for this. Not just for the awkward situation, but for that poor doodle with the clueless owner.

It's sad that so many are so obsessed with $$ that they would do this with no research and no thought.

(shaking my head)

I know it's so sad to think about what could be wrong in year to come

I don't always think it's always (though perhaps often) about money.  Sometimes it's just the simple dumb reason that it would be cool to have puppies or friends saying "oh I want one of her pups!" -- it's stupid and ignorant.

Sorry you met such an ignorant person.
Yeah, there's a whole lot of them out there

Um, WTH???!!!  That's all I've got.

At least you were able to say something back to her, so there's that.  I can never think of an appropriate comeback quick enough (but thankfully never had to reply to THAT!) - I'm the girl who thinks of something good to say 10 minutes later, lol.

10minutes later I thought of much better things to say! Moose isn't even fixed yet and that's all I could think of to end the conversation but I always wish I could have said something witty but I can't think that quick.

Yeah, we went to a restaurant once and some woman we had never met before came and sat down with us. My husband and I were at a loss for words. At times like that your mind goes blank. Would be interesting to know if she ever gets any takers.
