What type of leash/collar etc do you use? I use the slip lead for Charlie because that's what his trainer uses/suggested but I find that it doesn't stay tight on his neck, it slips down and he pulls a lot.

I'd love to hear what everyone's using!

Save yourself (and your shoulder) and get an Easy Walk harness. Seriously the best thing out there. My boys are large and extra large and this is great for training them to not pull but also when they do pull it gives you more control. I also use a 4 foot flat leash with a training/traffic handle that is right at the connection for the collar or harness. I find that when we are in high traffic areas I want my boys right next to me and when I am working with my puppy on heeling, it is nice to have him right next to me to start with. For collars, I use hydro collars from hotdogsalldressed.com. Nancy, Ned, and Clancy recommended them in the Ring around the Collar group because they don't mat their fur and are stink/water proof and I am so happy she posted that in there! These are the only collars that don't mat my older doodle's fur. Good luck!

I had one but his trainer is really against them. He was doing great with the slip lead leash he has but I find it doesn't stay up on his neck for long. The leather clasp part loosens up quickly. Charlies collar is from kong and doesnt mat his fur, but I'll definitely check those collars out!! THank you!

no problem, out of curiosity, why does his trainer not like the harness? I'm curious now :)

We use the Easy Walk, but when we first started training we were using the Starmark training collar - our trainer recommended this to use as a corrective tool while training, but when our puppy grew out of it we started using the Easy Walk harness, which is really amazing. It still requires training and working with the puppy to focus on you and respond to your corrections because it doesn't allow you to control your puppy's movement very much. That was tough in the beginning, but our 14 month old pup is a great walker now!

We love our "no pull" halter for long walks:

Would buy it again a hundred times over.

We use it with this leash: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005CXIXGS?psc=1&redirect=true...

Bought in 2012 and looks brand new. We use it multiple times every day.

Love the Gentle Leader as well to help with "sled dogging"! And the Lupine leashes and collars are great - they replace them even if chewed!

I'm a fan of the Gentle Leader too.  I've always just used a slip lead with Guinness (mini) because he's not a "puller".  Murph does best on the Gentle Leader....he kind of thinks it's his "working collar" and his behavior is so much better when he has it on.  I always use it for walks where there could be distractions.  The thing is though...you really need to do the training along with finding the right collar.  They need to learn to walk by your side and stay focused on you.  The collar is a tool...but IMO it doesn't replace the training.  I'm sure if you're working with a trainer, you've already got a plan.

Oops! I meant Easy Walk!

A Gentle Leader fan -- as a training tool.
