Hi everyone, I've just had my Murph at the Vets over the last last three days with a high temperature, poor appetite, lethargy. Prescribed a course of intravenous antibiotic followed by an oral regime. Overall he's condition has been up and down but now presenting quite happy. A blood test indicated a low white cell count and subsequent urine test showed some traces of blood. The vet indicates Murph may have Glycogin storage disease but only a hypothesis. A follow up check tomorrow for temperature with a possible 24hr observation and IV fluids. Anyone experianced this? My research tells me the outcome is dire :(

I am sorry to hear this. Since glycogen storage disease is not a frequent diagnosis you may want a second opinion from an internal medicine vet. Good luck.

Matt, I a so sorry that Murph is so ill and you are having to wait for a certain diagnosis.  I hope he has something that is easily curable.

The photos you posted look like you and Murph have lots of fun together. I hope you will update us when you have more news from the vet. I am not sure if anyone mentioned talking with a vet school in your area if this is in fact a rare disease or you feel Murphy might have been misdiagnosed. Most of all I hope to hear that he is well soon.

So sorry to hear about Murph. Hoping for the best and a quick recovery. Thinking about you both. He is a cutie!
Ok so a positive update for Murph!

After being kept overnight, rehydrated its looking like a kidney infection. Still a small trace of blood in his urine but considered normal for a period during/after infection. Some other item first found, which alerted the panic has gone. Temperature normal. Murphs home & a couple of visits scheduled during the week to check in.

Thanks again for all the well wishes, it's appreciated :)

That's such good news.

Great news! Thankful that it was a case of misdiagnosis!

BTW, consider adding a Probiotic or plain yogurt (with active cultures) to his daily regime since he is on antibiotics. A lot of doodles (or "groodle" in your case :-) ) seem to be a little prone to developing digestive problems/diarrhea after being on antibiotics.

Good advice. Just be sure to give the probiotic at least two hours apart from the antibiotics, and longer is better.

Good news

wahoo!!

Glad to hear Murph is on the mend and it wasn't a worst case scenario. He is a nice looking pup.

Just saw this discussion Matt.  So glad to hear your sweet boy is doing better.  He is a handsome groodle!  BTW - welcome to DK!
