Hello all. My dood is just 3 months old and has some gooey drainage from one eye. Is this common in the breed? I've ordered some dog eye drops for her from a pet website

I would not use any OTC drops from an on-line website. I'd have the vet look at it. She could have an eye infection. Some minor "eye boogers" are normal in all dogs, just like we sometimes have a little bit of debris in the corners of our eyes when we wake up, but it would be minor, not "drainage", and it wouldn't be just one eye. Especially in a young puppy, it's important to rule out an infection. Please see your vet.

Absolutely true.
Stew had some eye discharge a little while ago, maybe 2 months ago. It was yellow/greenish and thick. Figured it was an infection, got some drops from my vet and it cleared up within 4 days. The only difficulty was getting the drops into his eyes but I managed somehow.

I wouldn't use anything you bought online, definitely go to the vet. The eye drops for Stew weren't expensive and were worth it as I have extra if I ever see any more discharge.

okay, going to the vet tomorrow. I would like to compare the eye drops the vet gives me to the ones your vet gave you. I hate to use anything too strong, like steroids or antibiotics if she doesn't really need it, but whatever the vet says. I am new to the area so not sure of a good vet. Gonna pick a local one.

Loki had a corneal abrasion as well as an infection and the antibiotic drop they gave him was topramicin. Not sure if I'm spelling that correctly. He was also on a pain relieving drop. He was 10months when he was on these as well. I agree with what the others have said though if it's only the one eye it's probably an infection, think doggie pink eye. I would for sure go to a vet though because especially with your puppy being so young I would be very nervous using something from online when there could be any question of the dosage or cause of the drainage. Hope your baby feels better!

Just a follow up. I did take her to the vet and got her some eye drops. I have not once had to put them in though as it cleared on it's own. Go figure. I think it was just normal eye goo or vet said maybe slight allergy.
