Please help me find a reputable breeder in Canada OR one who will ship from the US :)

Looking for an F1b Medium English Goldendoodle and information about respected breeders.

I've been searching for months and months. Every time I think I've found what I'm looking for, I also find a red flag. Bad review on Google about this breeder, just a "bad feeling" when looking at their website, or next litter isn't until next summer. Sigh.

I'm very happy I found this site because I was exceedingly close to putting a deposit on a breeder whom I've read horrendous things about here. Thank you for saving me!!

My hope was to wrap up a photo of a litter, if not a photo of the actual puppy, for my 13 and 17 year old for Christmas. I'm not big on the idea of bringing the puppy home as a Christmas gift. I think it would be selfish of me and far too stressful on the little pup; especially if he/she has to be shipped. I hope you understand.

My first choice for a breeder is obviously Canada with the horrendous exchange rate these days!! However, if our new love can only be found in the US, that can be done also.

I'm off to find the reputable breeder area of this site lol. :)

Well I guess it would be possible if the breeder knew people willing to drive a certain distance, towards the new owners and they in turn knew enough people along the way to continue the drive to the final destination.

As for strangers, If it were several DK members, I'd be comfortable with them passing a dog along. No, not perfect for a pup, but better than flying alone. Bottom line, in this case, is going to be finding a pup in Canada.

Wish I could offer to help with the transfer, but I'm in the opposite direction.
Good luck to you. Hopefully we have some Canadian DK members who
might be able to pm you a suggestion.

That's nice of you. See, I would trust you and Yogi and Maci with my new pup for a car ride. I'd think the puppy would love it. Maybe I can start a"Breeder Ground Transport Service"  here on DK!!!  ( Yes, In my spare time) hahaha

I thought you had lots of free time, you're retired right? ;-)
I joke, I just retired from nursing on a critical care unit. I
remembered when you were trying to decide what to do
about retiring not that long ago.

I'm not sure if this would work - I live in Canada, but on the opposite coast!  When I was looking for my Myla, I knew that without a doubt I wanted a breeder that did the health testing - please note that I did not know about this site at that time, but I had a beautiful doodle named Zak, who died at the age of five from EPI.  I do know that this cannot be pre-determined, but I knew I could not go through the heartbreak of losing a dog at such a young age and would do everything in my power to make sure that my next doodle would be as healthy as I could determine!  I fell in love with puppies on a website that I was pretty sure did not do the health testing - when I emailed and asked about their health testing, she told me that she did not do that as she had no problems whatsoever with previous litters BUT she told me that if that was important to me, I should go to "My Breeder".  I will forever be indebted to this "backyard breeder" because she directed me to Myla's breeder.  So my point is that maybe you could ask some breeders in your area if they know any breeder that does do the health testing.  I do realize that there are a lot of really bad breeders but you might get lucky and if you ask the question, it might make some breeders realize that "health testing" is very important.  I really wish you luck and hope you find your "furever" doodle, but please do not give up on making sure that the health testing of the parents is crucial!!!!  You definitely do not want to go through the heartbreak that our family went through when our awesome Zak died way to young!!!

Cathy, if this is the site you're talking about, this is an ad site for BYBs and puppy mills. No reputable breeder would be caught dead on this site: http://www.mydogbreeders.com/

In general, you need to avoid the multiple breeder/multiple breeds ad sites. All of them. Reputable breeders have their own websites.

You would have to ask about and see proof of health testing and the health warranty. Also the age of the parents. The prices are slightly below those of most reputable breeders so to me, that's a red flag, but not necessarily a deal breaker.

I saw one GD breeder in Ontario on that goldendoodles.com link I gave you that looked very very good to me. Of course, looks can be deceiving, but worth exploring.

I'm so sorry Cathy - when I said "My Breeder" I meant the breeder I dealt with - not a website!  We didn't get Myla in Canada, we went to a breeder in Washington - I can see how you thought I meant a website!  What I meant in my post was that maybe when you talk to breeders and find out that they don't do the testing, you could tell them that health testing is important to you and could they recommend anyone that does do it.  I will pm you with my breeders name and maybe she can guide you to a breeder closer to where you live - she is definitely very passionate about doing the proper testing on puppies!

I do think you might need to be more flexible about the type/generation of doodle that you look for. Either that, or accept that this isn't going to happen before Christmas.

Have you looked into any of these breeders? http://goldendoodles.com/breeder_location/ontario.htm
