Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I said I would never do this, but currently thinking we need another doodle. Lol

Gracie will be turning 1 yr old in just a few days. I am thinking about getting another puppy - I think I might be stepping over the edge here as I remember Gracie's puppy days and they were horrendous! Ok, they weren't that bad, but I remember feeling like I was going to lose my mind some days. ;)
She's still puppyish and has some fine tuning work to do.
One reason we would like another is because she's so darn smart. She loves to hang out with us and is doing well keeping within her boundaries in the yard. Another reasons is that she likes to play with our other dog, but with him being a mini schnoodle at 14lbs and 8 yrs old, he really doesn't enjoy all of her antics. :D

I know we won't get a Gracie clone and I don't want one. I want one that is a little more of cuddler and gentle. Now I might not get that either. Lol I'm going to talk to the breeder and see what her thoughts are.
The other part of the equation is that I've returned to work and am working over 30 hours a week right now. Which really isn't a lot when you think about it, but it's a lot when it comes to training a new puppy. This winter it will slow down and I would have more time to spend with the puppy.

I have been reading the multiple dog board here and did some research on training a puppy while working. So there is a lot to think about.
Just wondering how crazy this idea is!

And yet another cute shot of my two girls who have known each other less than a year...we really lucked out with Elli...

LOVE, Joani!

Aw shucks, thank-you Nancy.

Do you think you can find a cuter picture?  ;-)   This has got to be submitted for the calendars!

What a great picture!!  You can feel the love!

sigh- this just put me on the path to get a second doodle-  . yeah.

I know, right! This photo amazing others sealed the deal for me. ;)

I thought I really wanted to get another pup but a friend just got a labradoodle pup and I was so excited that I was honored that I was asked to watch it overnight in the first week. Oh boy, what a job! Anyway, since, this pup is super-hyper in the first 1/2hr every time it sees us.  She drives poor Picco nuts with her swatting his face. It's really turned me off the puppy craving!  Picco was an angel as a pup and I've always appreciated him for that. I don't think I can handle a pup and would worry about a rescue too.

That sounds like Gracie, so I would hope for a pup more like Picco this time around! Lol
I haven't made up my mind as of yet though. I know that pups can be a handful and we've pretty much gotten back into a calm routine around here. So, it would be once again chaotic for a bit. Lots to think about!
Plus, today it's been cold and windy a reminder that I don't want to be outside all of the time on pup duty. ;)

Another thing I thought about was boarding if I travel.  Friends don't mind 1 dog for a couple days but 2, I'd be afraid to ask, and boarding is expensive.  Oh geeze, I'm not trying to talk you out of it! I think I'm just running off my own reasons that I keep telling myself over and over!

Here is some positives! This is a good time to look for a breeder, it might not be till spring that you would actually be taking a pup home!  And, those chaotic days go fast!

We just got a second doodle on November 1 and I was thinking "maybe this was a mistake" during the first week but then we learned the lesson to crate the new pup and not just keep her in a room when no one was around, and that helped a lot. It also really helped to get a dog that was already housebroken and trained! Two weeks in we have had some destruction (she is only a year old) but no real accidents in the house. She gets too aggressive once in awhile and will counter surf but otherwise her behavior is pretty good.

Congratulations, Julie.
