My almost 6 month old golden doodle was up last night for HOURS barking up a storm. I took him out several times and was sure there was nothing wrong. I tried to ignore but the barking was incessant and was going to wake up my whole house at 3am. Hoping to avoid another night like this, has never happened before. any tips? THANKS!!!!

Hmmm.. Is he sick?
When our Maddy was about 4mos she had a minor bladder infection, kept needing to go out but could not urinate. Just the sensation and she was confused. Antibiotics did the trick.

Was he barking in the direction of something? Like a scary trash bag (haha), or looking outside? Doggy Dan's method works well, but I guess I wonder first what he might have been barking at if the behavior is out of the ordinary.

That sounds terrible! Is it possible that it was just a weird..one-time thing? The only thing I can think of is to make sure your pup gets a ton of exercise today. Maybe they were just awake and on high-alert? I recall that if our pup didn't get enough exercise (actually this is still true at 16 months), he wouldn't settle down to sleep at night and would be really pace-y and active. We found that weekly daycare, puppy playdates, and dog park visits really were a life-saver over our puppy's first year. Good luck!

Did something change in your house? Like a radio, heating and cooling, washer/dryer, anything at all. Loki around 8months old started to be afraid of the cold air return, come to find out the apartment complex had changed something in their heating and cooling and now he hates it! When I asked what they did, they only put new filters in but it must have changed the sound of it in some way that only dogs can notice. We have since moved but whenever the cold air return kicks one leaves the room. Another thought is maybe there was different weather outside? Both my guys get very upset if its really windy outside. Good luck!

Zoey is hyper alert. She barks at sirens, and feels she must respond to birds at 5 AM. We ended up using a white noise machine. It was one I bought one of my sons for college, but remained unopened. I think it was less than $20. We use it every night worth every penny!

My crazy doodle has been barking at the Christmas decorations... did you or your neighbors just put some up?
