Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

We finally brought Ollie home last night :). He is such a sweet and playful pup, but also incredibly calm! Like many others, I wanted a goldendoodle for the teddy-bear look associated with a wavy coat. But it seems to me like our Ollie is more retriever than doodle.

Do you think he might develop a more wavy coat?

Ollie is a cutie! He looks like some of Jade's siblings. Is he an f1 Goldendoodle? What I've read about f1 goldendoodle said is that most of them will be wavy as the flat coated retriever look comes from a second generation cross.
How old is Ollie?

Thank you! He's such a sweetheart (despite peeing and pooping everywhere BUT his pad!)

He is an F1 and he's 7 weeks old - from what I've read so far on here as well as online is that coats can change dramatically until about 1 year. I've also read somewhere that fur on a puppy's ears is a good indication of what a future coat might look like, but I don't know...

I should have stated they can be shaggy to wavy. But, I believe the flat coated retriever is a second gen trait.

If you are training your puppy to use a potty pad, you have to train it to go there, just like you would train it to go outside. They just don't understand they need to go only on the pad. If you're going to eventually have him go outside, then you should just train him to go outside. Unless, you're using an expen set up and those do recommend a potty pad. But, if you don't have to train them to go inside, I would definitely just take the outside approach.

Well isn't he cute!

I predict "scruffy" ;)  I doubt he'll have a beard though.  Here's a pic of Luna at about 11 weeks old.  You can see her ears are kind of scruffy but she has no beard.  She still doesn't have a beard and pretty much looks like a very small golden retriever :p  She's an F1 mini.

Your puppy has more "wispy" stuff along his back than Luna ever did so I think his hair might be longer than hers.

Awe, he looks like such an adorable teddy bear.  I think fluffy but maintaining the retriever look.;)

OMD!  He is just so darn cute - I say who cares! :-}  I can see why you are so in love with him.

That is a great looking puppy.  GREAT!  I did not want the doodle teddy bear look.  I prefer the Golden Retriever look.  We had the pick of the litter had picked out the one with the least curly hair.  As a result we got what you have.  A great looking dog.  I don't believe you will get the teddy bear look you want.  But who knows.  These dog change as they grow older and he may in fact doodle out.  Either way, you'll have a great dog.

The first photo is of Bugatti at eight weeks when we picked him up and the second photo is at 5 months.

I think my Gracie might look like your Bugatti... she's 11 weeks old (F2b) and has waves on her ears, down her back and along her tail but seems to be flat elsewhere.  She also is shedding a bit... which I didn't want!!  How much does Bugatti shed?

Is shedding normal during puppy stages?

She is also ~12 pounds at 11 weeks... growing faster than I expected!! Any weight estimates? Dad was 25lbs, mom was 50.

WOW... the last photo looks just like Bugatti.  Identical!  When we picked up Bugatti at 8 weeks old he was 12 pounds.  At 11 weeks he was 16.7 pounds, at 14 weeks he was 24.6 pounds, at 18 weeks he was 34.6 pounds, at 26 weeks he is 48.4 pounds.  Looking at photos of his mom and dad, they look to be in the 50 pound range.  He is an F2 - both parents are Goldendoodles.  Several of the others that bought puppies from the litter stay in contact though a FaceBook group.  The photos are wild.  Bugatti is the only one that got this look.  All the others are teddy bears.... one has already been to the groomer.

As far as shedding it has been very little.  More of his puppy fur that he has lost than anything else.  We have a wood floor in the family room where he and our chocolate lab hang out and play.  We get much much more fur from the lab.  If he does shed it should be very little.  You may be seeing the puppy fur that they loose early on.  Lets hope.

It is difficult to grasp that Gracie is a majority Poodle.

Here are some more photos of Bugatti.  The last photo is of his litter mates.  Bugatti is buried under the pups and not visible.

He is so gorgeous!!!

Here is my Murph at 5 and a half months and at 8 weeks He has random curls and fluff. He does not have any of the facial Furnishing's though.
