Just wondering - Has anyone had a sweet puppy and then all of the sudden they weren't so sweet?

I'm not talking zoomies either. Lol

Jade is so different from Gracie. Jade likes to be held, she loves cuddles, and gives lots of kisses. She is pretty much potty trained. I'm sure I will jinx myself by saying that too. Lol She's been easy to train and seems to want to please us.

Gracie was rough to potty train. We were out the door every 20 mins. and if not a potty accident. Gracie did not like to be held. We forced her to lay down in our laps. Lol. She wanted to be with us, but was always nipping. We had to give her lots of time outs.
She is now a great dog with a little bit of stubbornness. For instance, she takes her own time to sit when asked before getting fed. All the other dogs have sat already.

So, has anyone had a puppy that was sweet at first and then turned crazy? I keep thinking that's what is going to happen with Jade.
Hopefully it won't, but I want to be prepared. ;)

I think Jade will stay sweet!  Beasley, my younger GD, was kind of the opposite of Eloise as a puppy - and she sounds a lot like Jade.  Cuddlebug from day one, super affectionate and always wants to be with me.  Never really nipped people (I think because Eloise got the full brunt of her puppy teeth) and just wants to please.  (She's also a total spaz and can't focus quite as well - but is highly food motivated.  So while she's very trainable, she takes longer to learn things - Eloise just "got things" and literally understood on the 3rd time of using any new word as a command.)

Eloise was very independent as a puppy, not a cuddler (she's turned into one as an adult, yay! but still a lot on her own terms), total shark-puppy and, after a while, basically knew to put herself in time-out before I sent her there.  As far as I'm concerned, as an adult dog, she's the greatest thing since sliced bread. :)  Still has a bit of a stubborn streak, too. But she's like the smart, responsible older sister to the fun-loving party girl that Beasley is.  Beazer will look for mischief sometimes (ie, she's the type to have a keg party when the parents are gone, hence she is crated when I leave for more than a couple hours) - while Eloise will bark to alert me when Beasley is "up to no good" (ie, she's a tattle-tale, lol.)

So, to answer your question, Beasley hasn't turned crazy and she's 21 mos now.  Still the same sweet baby she was from the beginning.  She's also still the giant spaz, but that's part of what makes her Beasley. ;)  I bet Jade's personality will stay sweet just like she is now...and hopefully the teenager moments will be few and far between, lol.

Awe. Yeah. Jade is actually easy to train as far as sitting, down, paw, etc. house training has been a breeze too. She has a soft mouth and hasn't been all shark like Gracie was. Gracie is an awesome dog as well, I'm just amazed at the differences.
There were times I didn't like Gracie. :( But, I never gave up on her. She's not a kisser, but she does love to lay down beside us and she "tunnels" between our legs to give us hugs.
Well, Penny is sweet and so far hasn't swayed from that. But sweetness doesn't mean an easy ticket to housebreaking, at least in Penny's case. She didn't get housebroke until 5 months old. And like you, I'm afraid to mention it because I don't want to jinx our luck. After all, she's not quite 6 months yet so we aren't positive that she's totally trained in that respect. And sweetness doesn't mean Penny's not stubborn. She is. If she doesn't want to do something, she won't. We have gotten on our knees and begged her to do certain things and at times, they just don't happen. Sometimes I think Doodles are almost too intelligent. Meaning, the more they know, the more ways they can "get in trouble". Does that make any sense? We are lucky, Penny is not mouthy and not a nipper. But she's got a mind of her own. Good luck with Gracie!
Gracie is doing well. She was just harder to train in all ways. She was and is food motivated, but that doesn't always override her stubbornness. ;) See above as to my response to Julie. :)

Lyndy - so funny.  We've had many discussions about vast differences in personalities between dogs. My boys are litter mate brothers and I don't think they could be any more different.  Both have retained the same basic personality that they had as wee ones, though. Both are sweet - just respond and react differently. Cody is a lap dog - or so he thinks!  Still sits in my lap periodically while we are watching TV. Casey just comes up, puts his head on my leg to get his head scratched, but hasn't tried to get in my lap since he was a wee guy. Both love lots of scratching and attention, but Cody is more demanding. Casey is my stubborn one, but he was much easier to housebreak.  Cody is my kitchen / counter thief, and Casey is the one that LOVES to chew up magazines, mail, and remote controls!  Just like kids - each has his own personality.

Due to Gracie's crazy puppyhood, I just keep thinking any minute the dream will be over! :D I mean she did have her sweet moments too. And even when I was exhausted, I still kept thinking it's got to get better and it did. So, I guess I expect the opposite to occur now with Jade. ;)

I think these kinds of changes in behavior are to be expected.  Have you ever had a sweet baby who entered into the "terrible twos"?  It is the same thing with puppies.  Don't take it too personally.

Actually, I haven't. Both of my boys were pretty sweet. I'm a teacher and don't believe in the terrible twos. Just miscommunications. ;)
I should add that my oldest had a terrible teen years though. So, there is that to look forward to. ;)
