Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

So our little girl just turned 1 a few months ago. She is a mini 15 lb. F1B goldendoodle. Today we took her to our dog beach and she sprinted about 30 yards to another dog, then sprinted back, then sprinted to another dog, then sprinted back. This went on for a little while, about 5 minutes, and then suddenly as she was walking towards me, she suddenly gives a loud yelp and can't put any weight on her back left leg. We thought she might have stepped on a sharp shell or broken piece of glass. I picked her up, washed off her foot and found nothing wrong with the pad or anything in between. I set her down and as soon as she began to walk away, she yelped like somebody shocked her and wouldn't put weight on her foot. At this point I couldn't stand her being in pain so I picked her up (thank God she's little) and we brought her home.

It's been hours and she still cries out in pain whenever she tries to stand. My heart is breaking for her because running around like mad is one of her favorite things to do. She hasn't peed in a long long time because she won't stand. I don't know what to do. Please respond if anyone has experienced anything similar and what they did that helped. Her vet isn't open until Monday, but I will take her if this doesn't get any better. I will also try to post this discussion to other groups that may be able to help.

Thank you all!

Xrays showed nothing. No fractures or tears. They think she strained her soft tissue. This means no surgery which is a huge relief for us. So for now she's on pain and anti inflammatory meds, plenty of rest and relaxation. Thank you again DK owners for the encouragement and support!
Well, that's great news! Hopefully those meds will make a big difference for her and she can get some rest and heal quickly. Poor baby! I'm guessing that her pain really scared her and that's why she was crying so much. No surgery is awesome!
Glad everything is ok and no broken leg! I hope she is feeling much better today and ready to do her favorite activity again, run! :)
How is Dashi doing today?

Thank you for asking. She is not taking this well. She hasn't moved much at all today. The meds have not allowed her the comfort to pee and poo normally. She still hasn't pooped once since the accident and that's a really long time. I spoke with the Dr. and he said we may need to do an enema. She has only peed once. I keep making her drink water and broth. She likes both! She has had a bit of dry food and a lot last night. But her belly feels hard :(

I feel her pain...I wish there was more I could do. I keep taking her out to the grass and just giving her plenty of time to do whatever she wants, but she just sits there staring at me  sadly. At one point I actually made her go for a short, slow walk with me today (hoping it would stimulate a bowel movement), but no luck.

So the pain meds must be working if she's walking? Or is she still in a lot of pain? I feel so bad for both of you! I know it's rough when your baby is in pain and can't tell you what's wrong. Hugs & prayers for both of you!
I'm so sorry to hear that she hasn't been able to go potty. :( poor baby! I hope things will be much better tomorrow. Since she is able to walk a little today, I'm thinking she might be able to do a little walk again tomorrow and hopefully that will help her go potty. Keep us posted! Sending lots of hugs and kisses over!
OK, I have a little time to update. This morning when I took her out to try potty she finally peed! Then when I got home around 1:30, I took her out again and she pooped! The whole time she was squatting she was quietly whimpering but I softly encouraged her the whole time. Her tummy was visibly deflated. I can't imagine her relief. I can finally say we are on the mend. Thank you to all who helped up get thru this tough time.

Yay! So glad to hear she's doing better!

What a great news! I'm so glad to hear she was finally able to do her business :D Thanks for taking the time to update us!

I hope she continues to do well and feel better. She is a cutie.

I'm so happy and she must be so relieved...literally! Lol! But it sounds like she is still in some pain. Do you have a follow up appointment or are you going to see her regular vet?
