As some of you have noticed, Penny has extremely long eyelashes. We're closing in on nearly 1 1/2 inches long. When Penny got her first haircut, several weeks ago, we told the groomer to leave her eyelashes alone. But now I'm wondering if her lashes are too long. Can that harm her in some way or weigh down her eyelids? Or can it simply be bothersome for her? I've never had this situation with our other dogs so this is new to us. Has anyone's dog had long eyelashes that actually became problematic?

I swore I would never cut Kona's eyelashes either because they were so long and luxurious! I finally decided I would have to cut them because they don't curl up and they definitely make it hard to see his eyes. I assume they make it harder for him to see out too. ;o) Owen's eyelashes aren't as long; they're curlier and light colored so I don't cut his. I am sure Kona's were nearly 2 inches when I let them grow.

Jaxson has the longest eyelashes too! They are a good 2-1/2" long!! I have not cut them yet but am thinking I may need to have them trimmed soon! They don't seem to bother him. It is AMAZING how long they are! So cute.
Wow, those are a lot longer than Penny's! Apparently, they can get even LONGER! They grow like her hair! Is it the Golden Retriever or Poodle that produces these long lashes? Or is it just a perk of this breed (Goldendoodle)? For now, I'll leave Penny's lashes alone, I guess. They don't seem to bother her but I don't want to create a situation that might be harmful to her eyes/eyelids. Sometimes I wonder if they impede her vision. Penny's lashes are gold/red like her ears so they show up more than if they were cream. They curl up a bit at the end but mostly they are straight. They ARE beautiful. But it's crazy. Never seen eyelashes like that in my life. :-)
It is crazy!!! Jaxson isn't even a Goldendoodle. He's an Australian Labradoodle! So I guess both kinds of doodles can have long eyelashes! Jaxson is a caramel / red color and his lashes are the same. There are a couple other doodles that go to Jaxson's daycare but I don't think theirs are as long. Since he is only 18 months old, and if they continue to grow like his hair, they probably will have to be trimmed. But his groomer also loves them (and him!) and said don't cut them yet! (I've never seen anything like them before either!)

Ned is an ALD, non shedding. We trim his lashes if needed, but they are still long,   Clancy, below is a big shedder.  His eyelashes grow but not at all to Ned's length.  I wonder is if has more to do with shedding than what poodle mix they are.

Nancy -  they have wonderful eyelashes.  I am not keen on real long eye lashes.  Charlie's left lashes grow a little strange one half of them tend to grow downward.  I would need a large eyelash curler I think! LOL  We keep his shorter.  Beau has nice lashes, but we do trim them, otherwise he will start pawing at them.

I think if they get in their eyes, you have to cut them - mine would drive me crazy.  How odd, I had to go back and edit both of my comments because only half of them posted.

Tara's tend to get very long too and at some point I always trim them. Sometimes they get tangled in her facial hair so that's not good! LOL

Here's a photo of Penny's lashes. They are wet (from snow) and kinda clumped together, but you can still see the length. Penny's eyelashes are gold colored like her ears.

Sally, I wouldn't cut those beautiful eyelashes! Kona's are straight, go across his entire lid and grow down so that they cover his eyes. It's like he has to life heavy butterfly wings to see. hahahah

Those luxurious eyelashes on Penny are spectacular!

Thanks. I'm just concerned they might be detrimental or become so, later. She's not pawing at them. But lately Penny's eyes look "funny" (as in odd) . Maybe not odd, just different. I'll keep a close watch on her eyes.

Penny's are very pretty.
