Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi all,

I am new to this group! I've really enjoyed looking at all the photos. We have had our medium sized F1B goldendoodle for almost two months now. She is just 14 weeks and named Charlee. She has been a very sweet puppy and the family is smitten with her. I have two young children that are estatic and love playing with her.

I have to say, I am so happy to have found this group! I have been doing so much research online trying to figure out what our doodle will look like! I know that only time will tell, but I have to say, I was really hoping for that stereotypical doodle look. We obviously love her regardless, but I was surprised that she doesn't seem to be showing any signs of facial furnishings at all at 14 weeks. Although her coat does seem to be getting curlier or wavier. I wasn't quite expecting it considering she is an F1B?

I'd love to get any input considering your experiences. This is our first goldendoodle. I had even asked the breeder when we picked her out and she was certain Charlee would end up with the doodle face.

Did any of you have similar looking doodles?

Thanks!

Your pup is adorable, but she has what is called an "open face", which means she doesn't have furnishings. That's not likely to change. Very unusual in an F1B. Did you meet her parents? One was a purebred Poodle, the other an F1 Goldendoodle?

I have a question. If you have had your pup for 2 months, and she is 14 weeks old now, how old was she when you got her? Puppies should not leave their mothers and litters until they are at least 8 weeks old; in fact, it's against the law in many states to sell a puppy less than 8 weeks old. If the breeder did indeed let her go at 6 weeks, that may be a red flag that she also misrepresented the breed mix. :(

Eeek, sorry, I just recounted. It hasn't been quite two months. I don't know what I was thinking! I was accidentally counting from the date we picked her out (at 6 weeks) which was two months ago. Sorry, that was confusing! She will be 14 weeks tomorrow, and we brought her home when she was 8 weeks old. So we've had her for less than two months.

However, that is also where I was so confused. I thought the open face was very rare for an F1B as well. We did see the mother when we picked Charlee out. Her mother is an F1 English Goldendoodle and the dad is a purebred Poodle. There were three puppies in her litter that had a straighter coat, which we were thinking would be more wavy. The other 5 puppies in the litter were pretty curly. I'm just so confused about it!

The "doodle look" is really not so much about curly versus straight coat as it is about the furnishings. There are separate genes that control the furnishings and the curliness of the coat, and they don't always go together. There are breeds that have very curly coats but open faces, like the Irish Water Spaniel. But Poodles always have both genes, so it is very confusing.

Thanks for all the info! It is indeed very confusing! I didn't realize they were separate genes. Considering this, there certainly were other puppies in the litter also don't seem to have the furnishings. Very confusing!

Charlee is absolutely adorable! Love the little white "socks" and other markings! My Pippa is also an F1b. Her litter of 8 had three like her and 5 more doodly. The difference is, I knew her look would not change and the breeder did not tell me any different. Your pup is precious!

Jamie ~ Welcome to DK. Yes, I would agree she will probably not have furnishings on her face  but she has a beautiful face and eyes.

My breeder also told me my doodle would be doodly. It's unfortunate that a breeder would lie. Cause a good breeder can tell when a pup will have facial furnishings at about 8 weeks or sooner.

My Winnie is 65% poodle and will never look doodly. When I tell people what she is they don't believe me they basically think I got scammed. That's why I joined this group for support
