It doesn't matter much as first. I am one of those who can only use a rolled leather collar or a water collar because of matting. My dogs wear their collars 24/7 so I have to be careful. The rolled leather can be bought at any pet store. The water collar I really like is by Hot Dogs All Dressed. You can personalized them. We went with the hydro collar from Hot Dogs All Dressed, as well, and I love them. I don't add the decorations, but I really like them still.
Good idea. As I said before, got a little puppy collar from Petco with plastic snap, and left it on 24/7. It didn't bother him at all, very light weight, and he got used to the collar and leash right off the bat. Never pulls, unless we are heading home from a long walk, and I can easily correct that. I kept that on him until he was about 12 or 13 pounds, then got the small from Orvis, I think that will be his forever collar, as he will not get much bigger. We keep it on him 24/7 and no matting.
Im curious about hydro collars. Are they stiff, or flexible? Are they lightweight?
The ones I purchase are soft and flexible, never smell, never get stiff or brittle. Frankly, they are awesome collars. The ones I get are from a company in Canada called Hot Dogs All Dressed and cost less than you think because of the conversion.
I like the brand Lupine. They are the only ones that didn't have rough threading when I was touching them at the store. Our local pet store carries them, as does Amazon. No issues with matting. Just pay attention to the thickness if you order online. I accidentally got one that was made for a mini dog and had to reorder.
I love Lupine collars--plus they'll replace them if they get worn out!
