Crate placement

I realize every house and family are different but I wondered where people keep their crates if they use them? I plan to keep the large crate with divider in the room off the kitchen and a smaller one the pup will fit in initially in my bedroom.

We have always used two crates for puppies -- one between the kitchen and family room, and the other in our bedroom off to the side of the bed.

We also had 2. We had the larger one in the family room and the small one in the bedroom. She rarely uses one now.

That's what we did as well.  The smaller one in the bedroom was a soft sided crate that we could collapse and take with us if we were taking the puppy somewhere.

We had only one crate and kept it in the bedroom. When we camped in our RV we took it with us.

Our puppy sleeps in a crate in the kitchen. Our older dog is in there as well but he is not crated, we stopped crating him when he was about 1.5 years old. Our house has three levels and we only allow our dogs on the main level of the house. I'd actually be happy to let them be on the other floors but at 4 years old Rooney still cannot be trusted not to chew up things he shouldn't (he knows the boundaries on the main floor so he is safe there- as long we don't leave out something way too tempting).

We also used 2 crates when the dogs were puppies. 1 smaller one for the side of our bed and the larger one with a partition in the nook off the kitchen. We only used the smaller crate for 3 nights with Lucy before she was relegated to the larger crate downstairs. Oscar got 2 weeks of nights in the smaller crate. He was far more needy than Lucy as a pup, but he transitioned well after those 2 weeks.

Me, I never crated my dog outside the bedroom where I sleep.  many years ago when crating was not a thing, I thought my dog could stay in an area away from us (when she was a puppy) she hated it and cried all night, every night. I equated it to when my baby was a baby.  they need us, they need the pack close by, nothing wrong with a crate in my mind, just put it near.
