Hi All,
Olive started squatting yesterday a crazy amount of times - and mostly just dribbles. We were at a play date so I thought maybe it was just marking but then it happened at home, too. She didn't make a mistake in the house, nor overnight, nor through any naps. Just when she got to the grass, it was squat...squat...squat...deeper squat. Poor sweet girl. We took her straight to vet where the quick sample read UTI so we got 7 days Clavamox. We started last night. I'll give her probiotic in between, at lunch. Vet left a message today that the culture came back full of red and white blood cells, and we should see a good response to the Clavamox within 48hours, but he also wants a retest at end of the seven days.
Reading some other stories here, I'm hoping the Clavamox will kick this UTI but is there anything else we should be doing/asking vet about? Is there any special concern that this started so young? And could this interfere possibly with her eventual spay? I'm getting ahead of myself worrying as usual, but if anyone has helpful hindsight knowledge or advice, I'd appreciate it! Thanks, friends!

The Clavamox may nauseate her. Pepcid AC about 20-30 minutes before meals works well for that, but I'm not sure about using it in such a young pup, so you might ask the vet about it.

And of course you know she's going to need probiotics. :) You might want to start her on some plain unflavored nonfat yogurt in the meantime.

I hope the meds work. And try not to worry. :)

Thank you, I will ask about Pepcid. Fortunately she has been on probiotic every other day since we got her but continuing daily, now! I'll try, Karen, lol but you obviously know me! ;)
UTI in female pups are common and Olive should do fine.
I appreciate the reassurance, F! Thank you.

Harper had one at a similar age-- 7 days of Clavamox kicked it.

There were 2 other times I was convinced she had them but she didn't. She just liked to pee in multiple "sessions", which she grew out of at about 6 months old. We'd walk around the block and she would pee 4-5 times which I was convinced was a UTI, but it wasn't and she wasn't in any pain. One day she just stopped doing it, though, and now does it all at once.

Ohh this is good to hear, thank you for letting me know. She is on day 6 of Clavamox and much, much better, though I'm not sure 100%. She still does a few deep squats rather than one, so The Vet said she could refill the Rx since she is doing well on it - to ensure UTI will be kicked. This multiple squat thing is good to know, though. :-)
Olive started with mushy poo last night, which I assume is from Clavamox, or from the disgusting wormy looking junk on the end of a stick she found yesterday - and ate part of, before I could get it away from her!?! Just seeing this thing gave me dry heaves. So, I gave her double Proviable today and sweet potato with her kibble lunch.
I'm hoping we will get clean urine results soon, so that we can stop the Clavamox and get back to normal. When I told the other (worse) vet that she had mushy poo, she offered me flagyl. I declined - why offer another antibiotic? Hoping she firms up soon.

Mmm...yum! I hope things firm up soon.

Mm mm, yup, thanks. Raising puppies requires a strong stomach for both, lol!

For some strange reason, many GP vets seem to hand out metronidazole (Flagyl) for every case of diarrhea. For years, I had no idea it was an antibiotic; I thought of it like Imodium, a harmless diarrhea treatment. Then I found out otherwise.

If the stool doesn't improve soon, I'd have a fecal done, she might have picked up a parasite from whatever that disgusting stuff was. I hope not. :(

Gotcha, thanks Karen! I was googling yesterday about "eating worms," "eating larvae," etc. I can't imagine what ads are going to show up for me next on my FB or in my email, LOL! Cheers to no parasites. Ugh.
And perchance it is a parasite, what antibiotic would I want? Panacur? Thx!
