My Elkie gets so excited when anyone walks in the door that she pees. I can take her out to potty seconds earlier but somehow she still manages to tinkle. Has anyone else experienced this and what did you do?

I've never had this issue, but I believe it's common with some puppies because they're still learning bladder control. So, I wouldn't necessarily be concerned, but would discuss it with the vet, just to be on the safe side. Chloe, my sister's little 22-year-old dog (no, that's not a typo - oldest dog I've known), has had the "welcoming pee" issue all of her life. The vet diagnosed her with some sort of urinary tract problem and she's been on meds and special dog food for several years, which helps with discomfort but doesn't solve the "welcoming pee" problem.

What my sister does is ask anyone who's coming over to call in advance with their ETA or to call from their cell phone when they arrive. My sister then takes Chloe outside and when she sees the visitor, she pees outside and not in the house.

GREAT idea!!!

Our late Thule was like that for a few years.  We started having people greet her outside.  Then any excited peeing was irrelevant.  Eventually it went away.  It also helps if guests completely ignore the dog and pretend she is not there rather than dote over her and actually greet her back.
