Injury at the groomer

So Bruno was at the groomer this morning and I got a call that there was an injury and I needed to meet them at my vet's office. Apparently the scissors slipped and sliced his foot pad. They had stopped the bleeding by super gluing the flap of the pad on. Well the vet looked at it and could not do anything because they super glued it in the wrong direction! They put a medication on it and wrapped it and I have to go back in 3 days for a dressing change. He is on an antibiotic and I have a pain med for him should he need it.

What should I be asking the vet? Should I be concerned for long term injury to the pad? I am still in disbelief. There have been 2 other "incidents" but they were very minor - one was razor burn on him and the other a "knick" when he was wiggling. I know things happen but this seems excessive

UPDATE:

Bruno goes for his 3rd bandage change tomorrow. The vet was able to cut away all the super glue etc and expose the wound so that it could heal properly. I had the groomer come with me to the vet so that she could hear how it should have been handled. I hope she heeds the advice given.

We are hoping 1 or 2 more dressing changes then it should not be a problem. They are not expecting any ling term issues.

I am brushing up on my own grooming and have let the groomer know that we will not be utilizing the "free" grooming offered. They have paid all the vet bills with no problem as well.

Will be glad when this is all done.

Thanks, Nancy, and I have asked before if Bruno was especially squirmy or uncooperative. In fact, the manager of the shop who met me at the vet commented on how cooperative he is and that he is one of their favorite doodles! I know it was an accident but the way they handled the injury is of concern. We have a follow up with the vet Friday and hopefully things will be clearer then.

Just an FYI -  I took Beau to our groomer today and asked her about the super glue use.  She said they do have a vet adhesive that they can use in case of an emergency (and it is similar to super glue). She did tell me she has never cut a pad in all of her years of practice.  She is also fortunate in the fact that she rents space in the same building as a large veterinarian practice.  Sending good vibes that Bruno is back to his old self and has no further issues with the pad.

Yes, I have heard of a medical grade glue that can be used but these gals went to the store and purchased regular old super glue! My vet was pretty astonished that they did this. The super glue made it impossible for the vet to do anything but put some medicine on it and wrap it. We have an appt on Friday to unwrap and re-evaluate a treatment plan. I will post when I know more.

Wow- In the time that they took to go to the store and purchase super glue, they could have just held pressure to it and called you!

Incidentally, I read that the absolute only thing that dissolves super glue is acetone-as in nail polish remover. No wonder the vet didn't want to try to get it off!

Poor baby! I would just groom him yourself from here on out. When I got my new shear set, I sliced myself several times, but never sliced Winnie....

Well, then the groomer has too many accidents and poor first aid knowledge.  Not professional enough at all.

I would also look for another groomer. Too many incidents have happened with them. I have had Jaxson always professionally groomed and nothing has ever happened to him. Hope Bruno is good as new soon. Sending hugs!

I second everything said here. Orwell has never had an incident at his groomers even when he was a squirmy puppy. This tells me that there are ways of preventing accidents, and if there is an accident, it should be the only one.

Poor Bruno! I'm so sorry this happened to him. Please keep us updated on Bruno's condition and whether the groomer ceases paying his vet bills. Based on this incident and the many others with this groomer, this case screams professional negligence, but it's not worth pursuing unless the groomer refuses to pay all of the vet bills, rehab, and any other bills or expenses directly related to the injury until the vet determines that Bruno is fully healed with no expectation of future problems.
