Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi all.  As many of you know, I lost my beloved australian labradoodle, Paz, almost 2 months ago.  Paz had been diagnosed with T Cell Lymphoma in November 2015, and after a 6 month courageous battle, Paz crossed the rainbow bridge when he was only sx years old.  Paz was a registered Pet Partners therapy dog who helped the youngest victims of violent crime; in his short life, Paz gave so much, to so many and I have been heartbroken at losing him.   In any event, I decided to get an australian labradoodle puppy who can be trained to continue Paz's amazing work.  After much research, I found a highly recommended breeder who breeds large standard labradoodles; her mission is to breed dogs with temperaments that make them potential therapy/service dogs candidates.  I gave her a deposit for a planned litter and she called to tell me that the mommy dog is pregnant.......yaaay!  I am so excited!   The puppies are due around September 7 and I will pick the puppy up on November 11.    The puppies are being assessed by an independent evaluator at 7 weeks, and the results of that evaluation will determine which puppy I will get that has the greatest potential to be trained as a therapy dog.   I am so excited as I miss Paz so very much, and I know a puppy will help alleviate the sadness I am experiencing.  I'll keep you all posted as the time gets closer.  Thanks and big hugs to my doodlekisses family who have applauded Paz's accomplishments and supported me throughout Paz's illness.  I've never met any of you, however, I truly feel like your are the best extended family I could ever hope for.

You know I'm so happy for you! It sounds like this new puppy will bless a lot of lives.  It's so sweet that you are able to take Sadie and Josephine with you to bring the little one home!  You've been an inspiration for Finn and I too and we can't wait to meet you guys someday soon.

I'm looking forward to meeting you and Finn too!  If we have to flee to Canada we will all be spending lots of quality time together!

Haha Charlotte, count us in!
I haven't checked my doodle kisses in a while. I was sooooo happy to see your post. There is nothing like a puppy to heal a broken heart. I look forward to hearing about your puppy when he/she arrives.

Thank you so very much.

Super news.  You will definitely be ready for your new puppy in November.  I had my sheepadoodle puppy ordered for two years and was delighted when I heard she had been bred.  She is fitting in well with my other two dogs but what a ball of energy!  She will be four months on Sept. 18th and I will be anxious to see her weight then.  She is growing like a weed and I anticipate she will be 60-70 pounds.  A puppy is so much fun.

Hi Lynda, I have a quick question.  I will be picking the puppy up in North Carolina and it will be accompanying me in the cabin on the plane;  I was just wondering if you knew how much your puppy weighed when you brought him home, and what kind of carrier you used.   I'm flying United and I've already reserved a spot for him in the cabin with me, so just wanted to know what worked for you.

What worked for me was a Sherpa bag that I got at Walmart.  I got a medium bag and it fit well under the seat, but be sure to get a window seat as they have more room under the seat in front of you.  It is a little clumsy but you don't need to get out during the flight.  My puppy was eight pounds and the bag will work for about up to 12 pounds.  I also used it for a carrying case for trips in the car and to the vet, but she soon refused to get in it because it was too small for a growing puppy.  I also got a baby chest pack (see my profile photo) that I used for her but very quickly she was too heavy to be carried.  I take her on leash now around the neighborhood and at our dog walk/bike ride area, but we have not taken her to the beach (except in the chest pack) or to a dog park because of innoculations.

Today she was 27 lbs. so that tells you how fast she is growing.  No way she could fit in the Sherpa bag or the chest pack these days.  I do have a metal cage downstairs but she is quite comfortable riding loose in the back of the car with the other dogs.  Her last shot is next week and we are looking forward to Poodle Day in Carmel this year.

Awesome - can't wait to see pictures and hear about your new puppy.
