Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
My fiance and I are thinking about getting new cars because of we of our new puppy. We also have taken up kayaking. We currently own two cars, a Lexus Es 350 and a Porsche Cayenne S. I've been driving Lexus sedans since I was 16 years old and I really wanted something different. So I'm thinking of getting a Porsche 911 Cabriolet. This is a small convertible with a small back seat. My doodle is about 6 months old and weighs ~ 35 lbs but he is a standard Goldendoodle. He is very gangly and tall. His father is a 30 lb medium poodle and mother was a 60 lb f1 Goldendoodle. My Dad thinks getting the 911 would be very unfair for Lucky because he won't be able to fit but I've seen some photos on this forum where people have their dog in their convertible. My fiance wants to get rid of the Cayenne for the Prius V or MB GLC to be more gas efficient. I am very determined to get the 911 convertible but can a Standard Goldendoodle fit? I also want to mention that Lucky is my service dog so he would go to places with me a lot. I've attached a few photos of the Porsche 911 backseat and a photo I found of a very large dog in that exact car. I've also saw on Porsche forum you can add a modification to make it dog-friendly. It is the photo with the red exterior. What does everyone think?
Update: After the Convertible Rollover research, I've decided no on the 911. Despite the rollover bar protection, the test on youtube shows a very poor outcome to any serious rollovers. I am now gonna look at the Range Rover HSE. Seems very dog friendly and is one of the larger suvs.

whoa whoa they roll over? yikes i'm gonna do a bit more research.
Thank you so much for mentioning this. I've never considered this at all! The research I'm seeing is really alarming and I don't think I want a convertible anymore. Thank you soo much!
I know people drive them and love them, I am just a cautious person by nature. I want to be in something I feel I will have a chance of surviving if I am in a bad accident. It was just about 3 weeks ago I passed an accident where both cars were on their roof. This was in a residential area.
too Cute!!! Love the photo!! Your doodle looks very happy
Love Kramer's goggles.
Love your photo and I see you have googles on Kramer - kudos to you. IMO - All dogs needs to be restrained in the car because if there were an accident even at low speeds, the dog would project into the windshield or out of the car being injured or worse. My motto is to treat my doodles like children and that means if you are in the car, you are wearing a restraint! I know - sorry to rain on anyone's parade!
Or even fly into you. I have been Tboned and me who was the passenger would have flown into the driver if I hadn't been wearing a seatbelt. Annabelle has never ridden in the car without being restrained. Even the 2 hour ride home from the breeder she was in a carrier, strapped in a seatbelt. Now she has a harness used with a seatbelt. I am a hope for best, but prepare for the worst kind of person.
We have a Volvo XC90 which is an extremely safe car with lots of room for multiple dogs. We have been in an accident on the freeway in it where we were the 3rd car of 5. The Volvo was totalled, but we we totally uninjured. We had Ned with us and he was also uninjured. We looked at the XC60 - a bit smaller version, but decided to get the XC 90 again. I like that it has air conditioning in the back for he dogs.
Glad to hear everyone was uninjured. Volvo is known for their crash testing. I thought it was funny that we both think of the same thing.....A/C in the back for the dogs!!! I consider it and air bags for the grandkids as well. Like I said in first post, its about safety and comfort for all in the car!
I really like the AC in the back. Both my cars have it but the doggy hammock kinda obstructs it. We had to get the hammock because he enjoys rolling in mud. Every time we come home from the dog park he turns from white to brown. Lots of mud and sand. He also get what I called black beard from the drooling. It is so cute!
Absolutely!
