Thanks, Nancy.
yikes ~ even some of our recommended foods have problems! However - I seldom feed canned of any food.
Yes, every so often, one of our recommended brands will recall a product. It's usually canned or raw, for some reason. We watch that, and we have removed brands for more than one recall.
Mars Petcare has announced it is voluntarily recalling limited lots of its Cesar dog food products due to potential choking risk from small pieces of plastic that entered the food during production.
To learn which products are affected, please visit the following link: Cesar Dog Food Recall of October 2016
Thanks for posting this, Nancy. Hopefully none of our members are feeding this garbage, but it's good to know just in case. :)
I almost didn't post, but decided someone might be feeding it to their dog - or know someone who is.
February 3, 2017 — Evanger’s Dog and Cat Food Company, Inc. of Wheeling, Illinois, is voluntarily recalling specific lots of its Hunk of Beef canned dog food product due to potential contamination with the deadly drug, pentobarbital.
Although pentobarbital was detected in a single lot, the company is recalling all related Hunk of Beef products manufactured the week of June 6 through June 13, 2016.
The affected lots numbers that start with 1816E03HB, 1816E04HB, 1816E06HB, 1816E07HB, and 1816E13HB, and have an expiration date of June 2020.
The second half of the barcode reads 20109, which can be found on the back of the product label.
The affected products were sold both online and also distributed to retail locations only in the following states:
The recall affects 5 lots of food that were produced from its supplier’s lot of beef, which is specifically used for the Hunk of Beef product and no other products.
To date, five dogs reportedly became ill. And one of the five dogs died after consuming the product with lot number 1816E06HB13.

I just saw this on twitter and came to make sure that you had the informtion. I should not be surprised that you do! But what a truly bizarre contaminent. How on earth would pentobarb end up in dog food?
I'm glad we aren't feeding that food! But hearing things like that is enough to make you truly paranoid!
It ends up in dog food if they use euthanized cattle for the beef. :(
And be paranoid, because the current administration seems hell bent on deregulating and removing any and all testing and consumer safeguards for all businesses and industries, and the pet food supply chain is very closely linked to the human food supply chain.

Pentobarbital can affect animals that ingest it, and possibly cause side effects such as drowsiness, dizziness, excitement, loss of balance or nausea — or in extreme cases, death.
LOL Nancy, GMTA! I just posted this one, right above yours. It must be making the rounds on FB. :)
I get pet food recall alerts. I am glad it is making the rounds on FB. The more people who know about a recall, the better. :-}
