Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Ok so, all these puppy discussions, have me re-thinking the breeder situation, and other problems I am going to explain:

Problem 1- House- More than likely a house that will allow pets, will only allow ONE dog. (we are looking to rent) That means that we will have to push off getting a puppy for a year:(

Problem 2- Florida or Maryland OR Virginia?-  First choice would be Bella's breeder who I love, but 15+ hours away. Second choices, would be a breeder in Maryland and one in Virginia. Now my problem is, WHICH ONE!!

Problem 3- Best age for Bella to be?- Should I wait until she is older, or is 2 okay??

Problem 4-Will they get along?- We want another girl, because...Well, I just do!! Now, not getting a boy has nothing to do with lifting leg and other stuff, because I know with neutering, that will be gone. But will they get along even though they are both females?? I have heard different opinions from some breeders, websites, and vets,  but I would like to hear from experience:) I have also come to a theory, that some breeders say that boys are the best so they can sell them, since more people are partial to females, and they don't want to be stuck with all boys that will not sell.

So what do you think?? I know you can't help me with problem 1, but any comment is appreciated!

The only useful info I have to add is this, boy dogs do not stop lifting their leg and marking when they are neutered. My dog was neutered at 6 mos, peed like a girl till he was 2 and now will answer every p-mail on a walk if I was willing to stop. He has never done it inside even after a visiting dog did. Two males or two females, I don't think it really matters.

Interesting! I don't really think it matters either, to me it's more the personality:)

Females mark too, though. And some males squat like girls their entire lives, lol. Leg lifting saves damage to the grass, otherwise it doesn't matter how they pee, IMO,  as long as they do it outside.

;^)

This may sound dumb, but do females lift their legs?? Or do they mark by squatting?

I had a very dominant female who kind of tipped to the side when she marked, lol. The foot closest to the tree (or hydrant, or light post, or whatever she was marking) was up off the ground, but not hiked up as high as most males do.

Maci does this too. I find it comical

I never knew that! (obviously;) That's funny:)

ha ha!!

Mine started just barely raising one leg at 2 years old to  mark .  I laugh every time she does it. Apparently, though, this is common.  My Dalmatian never did it.

Yes, our female doodle lifts her leg in a salute.  My last dog, a male, squatted like a female.  Transgender dog peeing??

Sam, sorry I have no answers to your questions.  I always tell my friends "everything will line up perfectly when the time comes". :)  Good luck!

Oh gosh Karen, I'll have to break the bad news to my husband about Cooper squatting to pee his entire life. Every time Cooper squats in public, he will say "how embarrassing he is peeing like a girl!"  He wants Cooper to be more MANLY in that department. LOL  I am so not looking forward to him claiming and lifting his legs! He is over a year and a half now and so far he is still "innocent".  :)
