Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Ok so, all these puppy discussions, have me re-thinking the breeder situation, and other problems I am going to explain:

Problem 1- House- More than likely a house that will allow pets, will only allow ONE dog. (we are looking to rent) That means that we will have to push off getting a puppy for a year:(

Problem 2- Florida or Maryland OR Virginia?-  First choice would be Bella's breeder who I love, but 15+ hours away. Second choices, would be a breeder in Maryland and one in Virginia. Now my problem is, WHICH ONE!!

Problem 3- Best age for Bella to be?- Should I wait until she is older, or is 2 okay??

Problem 4-Will they get along?- We want another girl, because...Well, I just do!! Now, not getting a boy has nothing to do with lifting leg and other stuff, because I know with neutering, that will be gone. But will they get along even though they are both females?? I have heard different opinions from some breeders, websites, and vets,  but I would like to hear from experience:) I have also come to a theory, that some breeders say that boys are the best so they can sell them, since more people are partial to females, and they don't want to be stuck with all boys that will not sell.

So what do you think?? I know you can't help me with problem 1, but any comment is appreciated!

Being at your aunt's house, on the pups' territory, and with the pups having their own person there, is still different from Bella having another dog in her house and having to share you with another dog. I'd still try having another dog at your house without any other adults.
Of course, eventually they do all adjust, and an adult dog will accept a puppy more easily than another adult. But it can really be an eye opener. :)

Thank you for the advice! I will see if I can babysit somebodies dog:)

Leg lifting of our males have  ranged from never ever , 6 months; 6 years; and 7 years.  My daughter's FEMALE Yorkie mix not only lifts her leg but she marks inside and outside of the house.

I like female dogs, mostly because I can give them girly names and girly collars and potentially put them in a dress. But I also had the male dog who lifted his leg on the furniture and I was not impressed. I know not all of them do that, but I just like females. You read things that say that males are more affectionate. Then you read things that say females are more affectionate. I think in the end it comes down to what you want. For what it's worth, all of my dogs have always gotten along. Males and males, females and females, and males and females. I just added a 6 year old to the family with a 2 year old and a 14 year old -old lady papillon. And Katie was a puppy when Olivia was 12 and I felt bad because Katie would drag Olivia around by the tail like one of her toys, but everyone always got along fine. I think again, it just depends on the dog.

My concern was actually the opposite of yours. Not will they get along and be friends (ok, well that too.) But would they still play with me if they had each other to play with. And it actually seems to have worked out the way I wanted. They both seem to seek me out more for attention. And I love it. I love interacting with them. They seem to like the new dogs at the dog park better than they like each other. Maybe because there is no competition?

Good luck! I feel like the right time to add a second doodle will come, and when it does there won't be any hesitation. You will just know that it's time!

Thank You!

Poor little Oliva:( I am just imagining a small doggie being dragged by a doodle puppy in slow motion with the creepy movie music playing.

I have a feeling that whatever puppy I get, Bella will get along with. That is just her personality:) I am glad that it worked out for you, and I hope they are getting along good too:) I think I said this a few pages ago(I don't remember), But I think its mostly personality. I am probably getting a girl anyway though:)

I know, right? I always made Katie let go of her sister, because I didn't think it was very nice. But Olivia never objected. She's a really sweet dog, but she would have let us know if she was upset about it. Still, not cool!

Everything over here is so great. I bet if you did a study having a dog would beat antidepressants for mood improvement by a very significant margin. They just make me so happy.

That's funny that she doesn't mind! Especially because she was older! I am glad it's going good:)  I think dogs are just the happiest creatures ever!! Have you ever just looked at your doodle and started laughing?? Bella just stares at me:)

My boy has never ever lifted his leg to mark (even outside and on walks), and he has always peed like a girl. He has seen plenty of dogs mark. We even sometimes go on walks with a female chihuahua who stands on her front legs and marks every 50 feet or so. He kind of just sits there and looks dumbfounded while waiting for the walk to commence again. I joke that he is more civilized and is a no nonsense kind of guy.

I have seen Chihuahuas do that! I don't know why?? :)

Honestly, I think it's just because they can since they are so light. I would do hand stands all the time if I learned how, lol.

UPDATE: Ok.... So I think that I have found an answer to Problem 2: We are going to go with the Virginia breeder! REMEMBER, that this will probably change, because it has changed so many times already:) We've found a house that will allow dogs, but not puppies:( It's independent, so maybe if we ask we can..... Anyway I thought I would let you guys know:) You have been so helpful!!! Thank You!

Thanks, Sam for keeping us updated.
