My baby girl had an unexplained grand mal seizure today lasting about a minute. The vet checked her blood and thyroid- all were normal. She (Zola) is acting normal now but I am so concerned that we're going to miss it if we're not home. My husband and I both work during the day and she is home (usually crated) and we have a pet sitter come in the afternoon. I'm terrified that if my husband hadn't been home today she could have gotten hurt or been left in her own mess for hours. Has anyone tried one of the smart collars (health trackers) - fitbark or tagg or something else to successfully monitor seizures? If I had an alert or saw something abnormal I could be home in a heartbeat. We keep going back and forth about her being in a crate - (she's getting older/bigger now anyways) but if she's in a crate then we know where she is and not going to run into walls or fall off the couch or something? How do you monitor this? how do you know its working? I'm so scared for my girl...
Info: Zola is a chocolate goldendoodle (mother is a goldendoodle and father is std poodle). - She will be 2 in December. She is 61lbs (lost 4lbs in the past 2 months?! or the vet's scale was off).

We have the same worry and set up a Nestcam which detects and records motion. It came in handy just yesterday when we found a small pool of vomit. Our Penny will usually vomit right before a seizure. We felt so terrible that she might have had a seizure while we were at home and didn't notice. When we checked the video we saw her just laying there normally then reguritating a little, but no seizure fortunately.
My Cooper is a seizure baby and I'm also interested in knowing about these collars! I had never heard of one before your post. I do have a security camera in the area he is in while I'm not home, but it seems like a smart collar would be a good choice too. BTW, Zola is beautiful!
Zola had her 2nd seizure today....much worse than the first. It was terrifying... lasted almost 2 minutes this time and towards the end she was almost like howling in pain... We purchased a FitBark in the hopes it would show some anomaly.... unfortunately that didn't happen. It doesn't look any different than a normal hour for her.
I am so sorry this has happened to Zola. I don't know anything about the collar, so I can't really be of any help with that. Our Toby has had seizures for almost 8 years now. Almost all grand mals and clusters. Just a couple weeks ago he had one on Tuesday eve, then 3 within 30 minutes on Thursday eve. We have never known why he has them. We usually only have a few seconds warning, if anything. He gets very confused and looses his sense of smell and sight right before he falls over. Toby also "howls' during the end of a seizure. So I absolutely know the feeling, It can be very frightening. I would be careful leaving any collars on Zola if crated. If she leans on the side of the crate right before a seizure the collar could get caught on the side of the crate as she falls over. Toby has actually gotten his teeth caught on the side as he fell over. Very frightening! He bounces all over during a seizure, it was difficult to keep him away from the sides. So for this reason, we no longer crate him. We actually have a 4' x 4' "pen" we put him in now. Does much better and has more room during a seizure. Toby is also blind after a seizure so we have to walk him on a leash for awhile until he can see again. I am a stay-at-home doodle mom now because of this, and because of the amount of seizures he has he needs to be watched constantly. We looked into medical boarding, but at the cost of $200+ per week, and the fact we don't like putting him in the car after a seizure, it made more sense for me to just stay home. I know this isn't always an option. Is it possible to work from home part of the time, or could you have someone come in more often to check on her? There are ways to monitor using some of the Pet cam softwares, as already suggested. I hope everything works out so you can safely monitor Zola and keep her safe.
