Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I met this red 8 month old Cockapoo...actually twice in the last few days. He was
with his dog walker. I was blown away by his gentle laid back nature. No jumping, no barking!
Had no problem getting him to sit on my lap and love on him.

I have deposits on Minigolden doodle. Do I need an intervention?

Please be brutally frank.

I'm not sure what you're asking--was the cockapoo available? Or are you just more interested in a cockapoo than a goldendoodle right now? Because if it's the latter, I think it's safe to say that your sample size is not large enough to warrant changing your mind.

I think it all depends on your breeder.  Responsible breeders know their dogs, they are selective in choosing which dogs they breed, health test and temperment test heir dogs and they don't over breed.   I have 2 ALD's from the same breeder and and they both are very eager to please, easy to train and definitely not hyper and jumpy.  Both of my dogs are lap dogs, one is 38 lbs and the other is 24 lbs and they are both very loving :)

Sounds like a goldendoodle personality. :-)
Temperament and training are so important. You could have just as easily met a Cockapoo today
that was poorly trained and not from a good set of parents.
One dog is not enough of a cross section.
However.... if you feel you want to change. Go for it.
I think you could decide either doodle or cockapoo. You might end up with one like the one you met- or a wild hyper pup! It depends more on the breeder than the breed. If you want to be sure about size, it seems cockatoos are more consistent in size than doodles. Maybe you can find a forum of cockapoo owners and learn more from them.

My first experience with a poodle mix was with a cockapoo about 30 years ago.  We found her and it was almost a month before we found her owner.  In that time we fell in love with her.  I really can't say whether one poodle mix is 'better' than another.  I don't think you would go wrong to switch to a cockapoo, if that mix grabs your heart.

I would say to just follow your heart, but most of all be sure that you have the right breeder whichever decision you make...I think that's the most important thing.  My Vet had a Cockapoo who was so sweet and absolutely adorable....very similar temperament to my Guinness who is a mini Doodle.
