Hi All :
My Labradoodle, Toby seems like having a sensitive stomach compared to others.
I started with California Natural from the pet store's suggestion then switched to IAMS low residue from the Vet.
Problem is he has been fine for couples of months for those food per each then it didn't work out a it used to be.
I didn't put any CAN food before as I didn't want to make him spoil with that.
Now his stool is relatively loose so it's not easy to remove from the street CLEARLY.
I have been feeding him with a powder and CAN food with his original dry food for last 10 days but it was not that firm as he did before.
Is there anyone who has an idea for this?
If so, please help me.
I would appreciate it very much.
Hope to hear from you guys soon.
Thank you
Regards,
Toby & Scott
Sorry, Scott, I tried to go back and copy the discussion we had started over here, but it is gone already. As I said before, Iams is not a high quality food and was part of the major recalls of 2007. The powder Toby is perscribled by the vet is for IBS and other digestive problems. Pumpkin is a good natural choice for tummy troubles. (Not the pie kind).
Adding you own veggies and rice could also help digestive issues, but your vet needs to find out what is causing the problem. Not just treat it. There is a TON of info in the Food Group, you just have to start reading.
Not all vets are up on Canine Nutrition, so you have to advocate for your dog. Do your own research on Iams or any other food anyone tells you to feed. Don't take anyone's word for what is best.

Lynne Thank you for your note.
I was asked to move my post here.
I gave Toby for canned pumpkin and hamburger patty with brown rice before.
(When I took him to Vet, his stool was nothing but a diarrhea)
I thought that Low residue IAMS are different from regular IAMS but maybe I was wrong.
Anyway I will do research by myself from now on and will treat my Toby much better.
Thank you again.
Scott
I know, but I wrote some good info there and it was gone so I had to give it again.
As Karen said below, if we had more info we could help more. You didn't mention the hamburger, rice and pumpkin before. We can always help if we have all the info. There is so much help in these pages and so many people who can help, fast. Keep posting until we can get to the bottom of Toby's issue.
Some further info would help us to make some suggestions. How old is Toby? How much does he weigh? Did you buy him from a pet store? Other than loose stools, what other issues make you think he has a sensitive stomach? What kind of "powder" are you using?
We can give you more help than the pet store or (probably) the vet. You will definitely be discontinuing the IAMS! Just need a little more info if you can give it.

Hello Karen & Jack :
Toby is about 45 lbs, 8 months pup.
I got him from breeder.
I think he has a sensitive stomach cause he sometimes did choking, burping. His diarrhea started right after I was yelling with my friend unfortunately.
Vet gave me a Tylan powder(Vial) for diarrhea.
What I don't get about this is he was fine for last 3 months to be fed with this Low Residue IAMS which was available only at the Vet unlike other regular IAMS.
But maybe it wasn't that good from the beginning.
A friend of mine also advised me to consider Merrick Wilderness Blend which got the highest rating.
Did you have any chance to hear this brand?
Hi Toby, my pup also had some digestive issues when we got him at 8 weeks. he was eating IAMS large breed when we got him and we quickly switched him to Blue Buffalo Lamb and Brown Rice puppy and at 15 weeks today he is doing much better. he still has loose stools once a day (at 5pm...like clock work!) which the vet said she wasnt concerned about since some puppies just have sensitive stomachs and they eventually grow out of it.
Canned Pumpkin without the Hamburger perhaps, and it may take a few days to help. Chicken soup for the dog lovers soul seemed very good for my doodles sensitive tummy. But slow transition . Its all natural , much different then Iams. Puppies are much more sensitive.
I am sooooooooo not an expert in food, but I have had 2 dogs with very sensitive stomachs. We tried many different foods and to no avail with our first one. We ended up trying "Solid Gold" from a friend's reccomendation, and her problems were gone almost immediately. I was determined not to use a food that was hard to find around my home (Solid Gold isn't stocked in our local stores)...so with our new puppy I tried a bunch of other brands that were supposed to be good quality and then some for sensitive tummies. NOPE.... so as a last ditch resort I drove and picked up some Solid Gold again. About a week into that food, the diahrea subsided. It might not be the best food out there but it has really helped 2 of my dogs with their sensitive tummies. We use "Hund-n-flockn" (spelling???).
