Lucy's first hair cut... HELP! :(

So here I am again... twice in two days.  This time I am stressing about a hair cut for Lucy.  She is 7 months old and has never had more than an eye/potty area and paw trim.  As you can see, she is quite the fluff ball.... and this pic is a month old now.  I brush her diligently, but her hair is getting harder to get through I will admit.  And with snow around the corner I am worried about it just clumping in her fur.  So after speaking to a groomer, I was told that 1 inch is the longest they could leave her fur.  I am having a hard time even picturing that.  Does anyone have a pic of their doodle with a 1 inch puppy cut that they could send me?  I would LOVE to see what we are in for.  I know it's just hair and it will grow back.... but we kind of love Lucy's longer coat.  Thank you!!!

Hi Daniela, I'll attached two pictures. The first one was cut leaving 1 inch.  The second cut they left 1.5 inch after I told them I didn't like the 1 inch.  It was too short for me, he looked super thin. lol

Thanks for sharing; he's so sweet! I guess I prefer the 1.5 inch too but my groomer told me that 1 inch is the longest she can keep it.

Awe he's so sweet! I like the 1.5" too but the groomer told me 1" was as long as she could leave it. Then again I'm sure .5 inch grows back quickly. Thanks for sharing!!

Thank you! Yes, you're right, half inch will grow very quickly! I have to admit, it was SUPER easy to take care of even though I like the longer look. :) Your fluff ball will look cute no matter what. Post a picture after her hair cut! :)

I keep mine around an inch. It makes it so much easier to care for them. I actually like it a lot (which surprises me because I also thought I would only like it longer when they were younger). Also a big consideration for you is that the matting is only going to get worse as she goes through the coat change.

Keep in mind that the hair will grow so fast. Even if you don't love it, it changes quickly.

Probably the thing that most of us love about our doodles is the "doodle" face. Don't let them cut the face hair short!

First haircuts are the worst! But you will feel bad for her and want to snuggle even more:) here is a picture of Bella's recent half-an-inch haircut! It really helps if you ask the groomer to keep the face longer:)

It took me a year to take Picco for his first groom.  I would trim around his eyes and brush him about every other day.  Once I got him a short cut I haven't gone back.  As much as I loved his long shaggy coat, the maintenance is not worth it!

Picco's coat is more like Bella's it still has it's curl when short.

You need to remember that not every coat is going to look the same at one inch.  There are really curly coats and really straight or wavey coats.  My guess is when they cut your girls puppy coat down she is going to look more curly.  I know that when I groom my girls I use a guard on the clippers and their coats are longer than 1 " ... I'm guessing the groomer doesn't like using a guard and a 1" blade is the longest they have.  Regardless, she is going to look different just because she will be transitioning from puppy coat to adult coat.  Just make sure she is combed out all the way down to the skin and under her arm pits, her neck area, under her ears etc.  All these places are easy to mat and if they find mats they could shave her.  We will look foward to after photos.

Hair grows back. I have to listen to my wife every time he gets it cut. In a day she is over it. Right now he is starting to look like cousin it. Within the next week he will get his winter cut and will be semi shaggy by Christmas so relax your dog will be fine.
