Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Finally made the decision and put a deposit on our pup. Dad is a red poodle and mom is a retriever. Puppies are F1 shades of red that should be 40-50 pounds full grown. Will be ready in early Feb. This is exactly what I've been looking for!! Just wanted to shared I'm excited!!

Ideally I wanted to be able to drive to the breeder to pick out our puppy but this one is a little too far for all of us to go and shipping will probably be best for our family. They offer ground shipping door to door...For those of you who picked out your puppy from pictures/video and had it shipped without meeting, how did it go? Any good stories to share? I'm sure I will be on with more questions in the next few weeks. Thanks!

Congratulations on your new family member. Welcome to DK. I saw Annabelle's photo on the breeder website and fell in love. She was exactly what I wanted. I did go pick her up, but the breeder was getting ready to ship the last pup from Michigan to Boston. I think door to door would be the next best thing if you can't go get him/her.

Congratulations!  I am very excited for you.  I chose my pup in person and picked him up, but I know that is not always possible.  Do post pictures!

Congratulations! It is exciting to have this time to learn and plan for your puppy. I can't wait to see pictures.

I never met my puppy until pick up day. I felt an instant connection to one of his earlier pictures (about 2 weeks old) And then later videos only cemented my feelings. I didn't want to get too attached just in case his temperament wasn't right for us. But when it came time to pick, he was perfect temperament wise. In fact my brother visited on the day we chose puppies (I wasn't able to go) and said he would have picked Cheddar if we hadn't.

Even though I did pick him up from the breeder and didn't have to ship, everything else was done by pictures, video, and talking to the breeder. And Cheddar has ended up being a great puppy, exactly what we were looking for and many more things I like that I didn't even think to look for.

How exciting!  Congratulations.

Congratulations!  I've never got a dog long distance or in advance or from a breeder.  It's always been instant love at first site!  But how could you go wrong with any Doodle?

Both of mine came from an excellent breeder and too far away for us to pick out or pick up.  It was all thru emails, photos and phone calls.  They were both flown in from Mich to Az and came in great conditions.  Even the water bowls still had water in them and only had an accident in the carrier.  Murphy was flown in the same crate as his litter mate and we have remained friends with that owner for 8 years now.  I would have loved to have visited and picked him out, but I put total faith in my breeder and was not the least bit disappointed either time.  I'd do it again if visiting were not an good option for my human family

I have had three doodles shipped to me and it went great.  I did pick them up at the airport.  It is so easy to see your pups on line these days and I saw all of my pups and had some choice in the matter on each of them.  I picked up my last doodle in Washington.  I flew to Spokane, rented a car, and drove out to the breeder's place to get her.  I know the area and have had another dog from this same breeder.  It is always fun to meet the pup's family.  Here is a picture of my pup's family.  She is in my lap.

I like the doodle in the hall. What a lovely photo!

Thanks everyone! Yes I've always had the picture in my head of my kids coming with us to pick out the puppy and taking it home. But now that I know where we are getting it from and knowing my kids, it just doesn't work for us to make a long trip of it. I'm actually hoping it can be somewhat of a surprise when the puppy arrives. My kids (9 and 7) know I've been searching for a while but I'm trying to keep it somewhat of a secret as to when it is happening. Will be posting many pictures!!

Looking forward to home coming photos of your little doodle!
