We could fill the entire DK forum with articles like this one. Unfortunately, puppy mills thrive in the U.S. and Canada. Again, this is the reason it's so important not to purchase any puppy sight unseen from internet websites. Time and again you hear "but she seemed so nice". Yes, that's how these people succeed; they are experts at fooling the public.

Amen!

Classic sociopathic behavior. Studies have suggested that at least 1% of the human population are sociopaths.

It's so frustrating that people do not understand that a "good deal" is NOT "a good deal"!!!  I was caught in a very well intentioned "backyard breeder" with my first doodle Zak and we were devastated when she died - I still cry when I think of her!  I decided right there and then that I would do absolutely everything I could to make sure that my next doodle would be totally tested for anything that could possibly go wrong so that I would never have to go through that heartbreak again!  I totally know that Myla could get cancer or other illnesses but I also know that it's not because I decided to go to a breeder that did not do the health testing beforehand!  I really wish that everyone would take this to heart!!!!

Tragic.

One thing that I find really sad is the two cases discussed on here have extremely cold winters. I don't know how someone could be okay leaving a dog outside. Since they are emaciated they can't even hope to keep their bodies warm. :(

I know!  It's so sad!  I cry just looking at them.  I live in the interior of BC, Canada and right now the temperature is 2 degrees Fahrenheit and I cannot imagine any dog being left outside in that temperature (and we are a lot warmer than a lot of other Canadian cities!!!)

Definitely warmer than the one from where this person is from, definitely. It's 18 here in Vancouver, WA with snow on the ground. The only good place for Orwell in my mind is curled up on my bed... though, I might be a little selfish in wanting him there to warm me up anyway, lol

Let's hope her car broke down somewhere and she is out in the elements with no food, heat, or water, in her thin summer coat!

Here Here!

Totally agree!!!!!

The other day I read a headline about the dogs being returned to an abusive puppy mill operator because of some state law. I want to say it was in Texas, but now I can't find it. So I don't know for sure. I just wasn't emotionally ready to read another story on the subject, a day after the South Dakota post. It is too heartbreaking. I don't see it getting any better for a long time. Michigan is one of the worst states for child trafficking. So until we finally wake up and elect officials that think of kids and and dogs as more than just a commodity to be bought and sold, nothing is going to change. Here in Michigan, if someone is brought to justice, the judge just hands down the lightest sentence possible.
