Has anyone used these or know anything about them? Just made a visit to the pet store, they assured me this is not rawhide and is a completely safe chew, just wondered if anyone has used this or would know if it would be safe? We don't give Toby rawhide, but it looks like rawhide, so any input would be welcome.

Thanks. Toby just bites so aggressively on the end, trying to break pieces off, it sounds horrible, so my husband ends up taking it away after a few minutes. We are hoping he will just learn to gnaw on it and enjoy it.... I think, though, because it is rice flour, and should soften as he chews on it, as Karen said, it should be safe.

How big is Toby, and how old (I presume he has his adult teeth) ?

Teddy is a pretty tough chewer, when I try and take away his larger chew items (like the 5" Bully Stick) he growls and will run away.  Thankfully, it sticks out a bit so I can grab it (another reason why I bought some 12" and 9" ones -- safer for me !! LOL) but he isn't happy and I give him a soft treat when I finally get the big chew items away from him.

I'm not giving him a Salmon or Bully chew that is several ounces at 1 sitting, way too much.  I usually give these to him at night when I am eating and he insists on something for himself.  Since I am eating for 15-20 minutes, I can't give him soft treats -- they go down too quickly, he'll eat 1/2 a bag or more.  Hence...Bully Sticks, SmartBones...and now the Salmon Chews (the other Earth Animal Chews look good, too, but the Salmon one is the first non-meat one I bought).

Toby is a power chewer. He is about 44 lbs. I am happy that Teddy is enjoying the chews. Toby also gets possessive with the salmon chew. We let him chew a bit, then put it away. So far he is doing OK with it.

I wouldn't worry about the sound, Debbie.  It probably means he really likes it.

If you haven't already, also try a very large Bully Stick and/or Smartbones.  Buy them big !

Thanks. We have tried Bully Sticks, but Toby gets diarrhea from these, and since he is a seizure dog, we eliminate anything that causes loose stools. Toby is extremely difficult to find good chews and treats for, the salmon chew works, but we only give a few minutes at a time, we are working on a gradual increase in time that he gets to chew it. We also tried the Himalayan dog chews but they also gave him diarrhea. So for now he is doing well with the salmon chew. I am happy Teddy enjoys them. Toby just seems to have sensitive tummy issues any time his diet changes, so we try to keep things pretty consistant for him

Beef tendons might work for Toby. Be sure to only get those that are sourced and made in the USA, like these:

What about Smartbones ?  Different flavors, Teddy's favorite is Peanut Butter but he will eat the other flavors (eventually) when he is hungry enough or realizes he's not getting me to give him something different.  LOL

I tried the Himalayan Dog Chews -- both the milk/dairy and chicken products. Teddy didn't like either.  I'm "marinating" them in other treat bags in hopes the smell and aroma will "rub off" on them and he'll eventually nibble at least on part of them.

Frank, if this is what you're talking about, I wouldn't give these to my dog if they paid me. The ingredients are absolutely atrocious, and some of them can be dangerous. https://www.smartbones.com/product/classic-bone-chews/

Loaded with corn, tons of sugar, artificial flavorings and colors, chemical preservatives, it would be hard to find a worse treat or chew. They are also made in Asia, which is always dangerous. And for sure, inappropriate for any dog with digestive issues.

UPDATE 2:  Teddy chewed on the Salmon Chew last night 2 times for maybe a 1/2 hour or so, maybe a bit longer.  The orange marrow-like filling is gone and it's squished but he hasn't bitten off any sections.

Bottom Line....this thing lasts which is really good.  For me, the 4" Bully Stick's which last 1/2 - 1 hour cost about $1 each, so if I can get multiple uses out of this Salmon Chew (about $4 per roll) the cost is in the same neighborhood.  For bigger dogs, it'll likely go faster.

Thanks for the updates. Always good to hear how the chews are working out for everyone.

Teddy kind of sucked the marrow/inside out and now we just have the shells left !  Looks like a canoli pastry without the filling !! LOL  Not sure if he will eat those...he takes them away (he can smell the beef/salmon residue) but then 1 or 2 minutes later comes back to me for something else.  I'll see if he eats them tonight or tomorrow in lieu of other late-night snacks.

Hate to waste that much of each chew. I'll see what happens, maybe try the Sticks, though I don't want to deal with him swallowing narrow, thinner stuff (I have been buying oversized chew/treat toys: Smartbones, Earth Animal, Bully Sticks, etc.).

Anybody have any thoughts on the Chews vs. The Sticks ?
