Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Out of my two girls, Meg is my shedder.  We are waiting for it to be an Olympic event because we are confidant that she will take the gold.  Pictured here is one of two times a week we use the furminator, on the other days we use a rake and take a couple handfuls out PLUS my Roomba takes half the amount pictured off the two carpeted floors, every-single-day!  Whew, who new doodles could shed, right? Meg falls out to the labby side and I am sure that is the biggest problem.  However we love her to pieces so we gather all that up and throw it in the yard, ( a lot has blown into their yard in this picture) it takes less than 15 minutes for the birds to gather it up for nesting.  We are pretty sure the baby birds will be following Meg around once they leave the nest.

This is what I always did with the hair from my German Shepherd fosters at this time of year; put it outside for the birds. But I never thought about doing that with Jack's hair, I don;t know why. Great idea!

(I can't see the photos you posted.)

I think I have the pictures fixed now.  I frequently freak out a bit when I spot a 'tumbleweed' I missed while cleaning and someone else is at my house.  But, those that know me know how much I love Meg and they know where to find the tape rollers sitting all over my house.

I love the idea of a dog hair bird nest!  Maybe you could try this idea-a Meg sweater!!

As much fun as that is to watch, it would never be for me, I couldn't even handle wearing angora sweaters when I was in school...just can't handle the fluff near my face. Not to mention my craftiness does not get that involved.  However, we have plenty to spare if anyone wants to try that. ;-)

I'm with you, Judy. Tara's not a shedder anyhow so not much chance of a sweater from her but our cat, oh boy...I wonder if the birds would like a cat hair nest???

They probably would. Take the hair out of the brush when you brush her and just put it out in the yard, or in a bush. They use anything. I've seen dental floss in a bird's nest, lol.

This great idea never occurred to me. I will be sure to take Pippa's hair outside to the yard from now on. My local birds I'm sure would thank you if they could!

Thanks for reminding me that is is not only okay, but a great idea, to leave Clancy's fur collection outside for the birds.

Oh my gosh! This is exactly what our one year old puppy's hair looks like. We literally get handfuls of hair each day and that's not even including the vacuum! I'll definitely use some of your suggestions:D

fortunately Lincoln does not shed like that, but when we brush him we get a good bit, especially now since he is longer and needs a groom ( next Thursday - yeah)  Never thought to do this, I do put out the lint from the dryer.  I see Robins outside today, so will put some out for them.

Judy, Thank you for posting this.  I immediately started researching robotic vacuums.  Haley's hair is so long that it wraps around the roller brush on any vacuum and quickly makes it useless; however, I found the DeebotN78 which does not have a roller brush.  I have only a few low pile area rugs so the roller brush is really not needed here. The Deebot was delivered yesterday and I love it.  Perhaps my house will now be free of the ever present "doodle bunnies".   Again, thanks for posting.

Glad to be of help.  We LOVE having a robotic vacuum.
