UPDATED Cloudy Eyes

This how Toby looked when he got up this morning. Immediately called the vet this morning, we have an appointment at 1:30pm. He was treated for Uveitus in April of 2015, also for the cloudy eyes. No discharge from the eyes. (It was also mentioned to us at that time that a tumor behind the eyes could cause this, although meds treated the eyes successfully and they didn't feel we needed further testing at that time).  Something comes to mind.... when this happened in April, 2015, Toby had been at grooming the week before. We had let our groomer know about his eyes, and she said there was nothing she would have used that could have caused this. She has been grooming him for years, is good with him, we always stay and wait for him, never leave him because he is always at risk for seizures, and not many groomers will accept him. Toby was just groomed last Wednesday. Just a thought. Has anyone had this happen, would there be any possibility that his eyes are super sensitive to something she may be using during the bath? He has so many issues and is so sensitive to everything. Have any of you seen this before, and any thoughts on  this?  Asking for prayers for Toby today.

UPDATE: Eyes are clearing up, left eye still pretty cloudy, right eye has made big improvement, still have a ways to go, but I am so happy he is improving. As of last night he was able to follow us and see his ball, that's a very good thing! I do have a call into the vet, he is now vomiting everything up. His stomach was quite unsettled last night, had to get up a couple times through the night to go out, which is very unusual for him. He has very loose stools now.  He is also refusing to eat, his meds require him to eat, he has even vomited up seizure meds from this morning...we have tried small pieces of burger, chicken, watermelon, canned dog food, even tried wrapping his phenobarb in a small piece of cheese, no luck!  Vet told we could give him Pepcid Ac if he got an upset stomach, we have been giving 10 mg tablet twice a day since he started on the meds. Thank goodness we have a SpotBot!

Thank you, no improvement yet today, I am really hoping later today after some more doses of his meds we will start to see at least a little improvement. Very scary, he is totally blind this morning, no play, doesn't want to eat, just wants to lay, but he was running into things this morning, so it's probably better he lay down. I made some burger this morning and sprinkled a bit on his kibble just so he would eat, as some of his meds require he take with food. Dr  said to make sure he eats before getting these meds. The burger does work, he didn't eat a lot, but enough he could take his meds. Praying we see some improvement soon! And get some answers as to what is causing this.

Debbie, I am so sorry to hear your news about Toby.  You have done so much for him with all that he has been through.  He is in the best, caring hands with you.  I hope you can quickly figure out what is happening and find something that helps get his vision back.  Alma and I send hugs to her "big brother."

Thank you, Diane! Toby does keep us on our toes. It's always something with him. We had asked our vet if this could have anything to do with his seizures, as they have gotten a lot worse in the past several months, but the  he doesn't think so. Still planning to hopefully get some answers as to what is causing this. I hope all is well with you and Alma.

 I just posted an update above, he does not want to eat or drink anything, vet wants us to give 20 mg Pepcid ac twice a day now instead of 10 mg twice a day, nothing else for stomach. Eyes are improving but he still needs his meds, and he needs to eat and drink. I do not want to let this go to the point he needs to be admitted for IV. Usually we can get him to drink by adding a pinch of canned food to his water, this is not even working. He normally loves a bite of watermelon and turns his head at this, too. I was trying to sneak his morning seizure meds into a bite of watermelon, but no success. He perked up last night and started playing with his ball, was able to see it, was eating and drinking as normal. Now, he has taken a big step back this morning.   We have another appointment tomorrow afternoon, am hoping I don't have to take him back in today. If needed, I definitely would. Any suggestions?

Poor Toby. He's having a rough week! Does the vet think the stomach upset is somehow related to his eyes? I completely understand wanting him to eat and drink at least enough to stay hydrated. 

It sounds like you've already tried the stuff I would have thought of to try, but what about bread? I'm totally making this up. But toast is part of the BRAT diet. And my guys love a little taste of bread. I would think it would be easy on his tummy. And for the drinking, have you tried letting him lick ice cubes? When we PO challenge the little kids the secret is to give them very small amounts frequently. When they drink a lot in a short time they always throw up, but they can usually handle 5cc's every 5 minutes. I don't know if it would be possible to syringe fluids into Toby's mouth. I just have more knowledge about kids than dogs.

Yes, the vet does think it is the meds. Toby just doesn't handle meds very well. He is very sensitive to so many things. That is why we keep everything pretty basic for him. I will definitely try the toast, and see if he will try the ice. We do have a syringe for him for him so if I have to, I will try to syringe a little water in. I sure don't need him dehydrated now. He was fine last night, eating and drinking, but this will be the 2nd full day of meds for his eyes, so maybe it is starting to cause the upset stomach now. He is on so many meds, 4 different seizure meds, and now 2 different eye drops and 2 oral meds now for the eyes. I think sometimes it's just a bit much for his sensitive tummy, but they are all needed right now. Thanks for the suggestions. I will try them now.

Some people here have had success in getting water/fluids into their dogs by giving them 100% juice frozen juice bars, like Outshine brand. Others have had success adding a little 100% apple juice to their water. 

In the past, I've been able to get sick dogs to eat a little by giving them plain scrambled eggs. And when all else has failed, you can usually get them to eat a little baby food.  

I am so sorry to hear that Toby is not doing well, I hope he improves quickly.

What about Gatorade diluted with water? I have heard that is good to prevent dehydration in dogs, but I never know how accurate the info is, not sure if it would be good for Toby. I do have eggs, I could try that. I might also try some rice.I don't really want to leave him and I don't want to put him in the car with me to go to store. I have tried a piece of toast, and tried putting an ice cube in his bowl, but no luck. I have talked with vet again, if he does not improve this afternoon, I will take him in instead of waiting for appointment tomorrow.

Just be very careful that the gatorade or sports drink does not have artificial sweetener in it (Xylitol especially)

We have never given it to him, we normally add a tsp of his canned food to water if we need to get him to drink, and usually it works. Today, he will take absolutely nothing.  But thanks for the info, I will check the ingredients if I have to resort to trying it. I even tried dropping a bite of watermelon in his water...no luck. I am making some steamed rice now to see if he will eat a bit of that.

I really hope you will find something that interests him. Have you tried pureed pumpkin? It's good for tummy aches too!
