Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Sorry for the many posts. This one is not parasite related, however.
Our poor boy seems to be moving very slowly this morning and doesn't really want to move. Normally, my partner and the pup get up first. When he hears me getting up about 30 minutes to an hour later, he is generally really excited -- I like to believe it because he loves me best, but really it is because it means that breakfast is about to happen. Then we go out to potty, get in the car, and drive to the office. Normally I take him out once or twice before noon and then my partner will come take him for an hour so lunch adventure.
This morning, he was pretty sedate when I came downstairs. At the office, he has been laying on the floor and napping (not particularly unusual, though even calmer and quieter than usual) but hasn't seemed to want to go outside at all. When my partner showed up, we could barely get him to stand up to get his leash on. I basically had to lift him to his feet to put his harness on.
He isn't limping at all or showing any obvious signs of discomfort, other than seeming to struggle a bit to get up (like an old man dog almost!). He ate his breakfast and has been drinking, and he pooped before we left the house. He peed a bit when my partner arrived, which again isn't super unusual -- he can do a bit of excitement peeing -- be even then, it didn't seem quite usual. It was after he had already gone back and laid down on his bed (which normally he doesn't do -- normally he wants to say hello and get lots of love).
He walked quite a bit yesterday, but nothing particularly out of the ordinary happened -- it wasn't the most he has ever walked - and he wasn't any more zoomie than usual at night, maybe even a little less.
Is he just a little sore? Should we take him to the vet? I'm so worried about my poor buddy!

Second update: Our little buddy is out of surgery and doing well. The left testicle had twisted on itself, which was causing the pain. The vet said that when they removed it, it was already turning black. He is staying over night at the hospital and we can bring him home tomorrow.
While this has been a scary 36 hours, I am so grateful for this forum -- from Karen chiming in that we should take him the vet immediately to all of the recommendations for pet insurance, which will (oh god please) hopefully prevent this from being not only scary but financially devastating ($6,000 and we are only at 16 weeks!), this forum has been so incredibly helpful!
Here is a our guy in his cone of shame before surgery. Even on drugs and in a cone, he is such a ham!
He's a sweetie! I hope he has an easy recovery. Kiss his nose for me!
Just saw this post. Wow - what a 36 hours you have had. So glad to hear there is light at the end of the tunnel and your boy will be home with you soon. Hang in there.
So happy to see this update. While I hate always preaching about pet insurance because some people just don't get it, this is a perfect example of why the "i'll just put the premium in a special account each month in case I need it, doesn't work". Hope he is good as new real soon. Just went to check to see where you live, and I must say I don't want to live in Seattle. $6000 ... ouch.
Your pup is so lucky that he had you to notice that he had a problem and get it treated. I am wishing him an uneventful recovery.
We have rescued several dogs this past year from shelters and 4 of the boys had undescended testicles. They were lucky in that they didn't have any complications before we pulled them because they obviously had not had their physical care taken care of or they wouldn't have been dumped in a shelter. They eventually would have had problems I am sure.
I'm so glad he's doing well! What a great pet parent you are! I hope he doesn't have to wear the cone of shame too long!
Wow! What a nightmare! Thank goodness for a very happy ending. Hope your insurance picks most of the tab up.
So happy for a great outcome for you all. Good call to take him in immediately. He should recover quickly and be back to his normal self very soon.
Aww, poor little guy, hope he has a quick recovery. Perfect example of having pet insurance...an unexpected $6000 vet bill.
