I was so upset when I realized that my doodle had tight matting at the end of her ear lobes I was always checking her body for matting but thought the thickness was part of her earlobes. I am new to dogs that require grooming but anxious to learn. She has a mixed coat. Wavy face, legs and a little curvier on her trunk.
Any recommendations for brushes?@

Hi Jean - matts can appear so quickly.  I would really recommend that you join the Doodle Grooming group (http://www.doodlekisses.com/group/doodlegrooming) There is a ton of information on that site, including what type of brush is best for each type of coat.  We groom Myla ourselves and I went to that group for information on what type of clipper was best to use and what attachments etc. Good luck!

I have found that this is the only brush that works for really matted hair. Try to keep your fingers between the dog's skin and hair, as the brush can irritate the skin if it scratches.

And this is my preferred grooming comb.

More important than brushing is combing. The doodle coat needs to be combed in sections right down to the skin, regularly. Join the grooming group for help and find YouTube videos of line brushing to get you started, there are some out there specific to doodles :)

This is the one I used to get me started:

If the link doesn't work, look up 'Groomimg Sully'

I use LesPoochs slicker brushes and a Chris Christensen pin brush and a steel toothed comb.  Ned's ears are very thick so I brush them on both sides with the slicker brush and the steel comb.

Thank you all for the replies. Will take the advice.
