Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Well I just found out that if you want your doodle to be groomed in a certain way, you just need to do it yourself. I love my groomer, but she ALWAYS clips Lucy too short and shaves her face entirely too short. I have not had Lucy groomed since the end of summer. I have been keeping her brushed, no matts, thank goodness. She was starting to look like a sheep dog. Her fur was, I know, at least 6 " long. So yesterday I decided to scissor her. No grooming table, no straps. She sat at first and then laid down during the rest of the 3 or so hrs. that it took me to do the job. When I was done it looked like I had just sheared a sheep. I know I have some high spots, but I think she turned out pretty well. I also ended up with a HUGH open blister on my middle finger from the scissors, ooch!!! I also found that with the scissors it seems that she is much curlier than when clippers are used. I now have to master clipping the nails. Anyone have any ideas on where to get a reasonably priced grooming table OR, what do you use. My back was killing me when I was done. Lucy loved it laying on the floor getting pam

pered.

Karen, you can probably find the scissor rings at a Beauty Suppy Store in your area. I am planning on doing the grooming on my new puppy and my daughters' doodle so am very interested in this topic too. I am a retired hair stylist, and agree with you 100% that curly hair is VERY forgiving. I am going to take the advise of Barb from the Grooming Group and invest in an Andis 2 speed clipper. Probably will have to get good shears as well as I know from professional experience that it makes all the difference and can certainly save time and discomfort.
We have a Sally Beauty store near me so I am going to take your advise and go there and buy a GOOD pair of scissors. I will also look for the "scissor rings" didn't know what they were called. Thanks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can't believe I did that on the floor either. Will not do that again. I will be rigging something else up at waist level. I am a nurse and always put the pt.'s bed up so I don't have to bend over. Don't know what I was thinking,,,,,, I wasn't LOL LOL LOL
Wow! You really did a nice job!!
Thanks Kyoko, it was fun
Karen, Lucy looks awesome - you did a great job. What kind of scissors should I get? Did ou use them on her face, too?
I did use them on her face, but I am not done with that part. By that time she had just about had it and so did I. Even today I keep finding areas that needed another little snip. I just used reg. scissors but am going to take the advise of Sue above and buy a good pair at a beauty shop store. Would probably be quicker and easier on the fingers. Thanks for the comment
I am impressed!
