Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hello...we have a 5 1/2 month old Labradoodle and I would like to get her a harness. There seem to be a lot of options out there. I'd like to get one that is obviously comfortable, but that is also easy to take on and off. I've been reading about no pull harnesses and they look like they might be a good option, but perhaps a little difficult to put on and take off and use along the walk?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions you might have....

We use Ruffwear Front Range harnesses for both dogs.  They are easy to take on and off, plus they seem very comfortable since they don't interfere at all with the front legs during walks. The leash clips easily onto the front for walking, and you have the option of attaching it to the top, if needed. Plus, they come in a wide range of colors.

For walking, I have always used the Easy Walk Harness, by PetSafe. For the car harness we have the Kurgo Tru-fit.  I've since read about being aware of the straps not being restrictive on their front shoulder movements which the Easy Walk seems to, but you can use the Kurgo for walking as well as Car Seat belt safety if you want to use for dual purposes.

We use Sensation by Soft Concepts- it is a front harness- only 1 buckle and goes over the dog's head easily.  It has helped a lot with pulling.

Thank you all for your replies. Our Labradoodle is almost 6 months old. Her chest is about 21-22in at the widest point. Do you think a small size (22-27in) would be a safe bet? Do you think her chest would grow beyond 27in?

I have all kinds of harnesses and leashes and use them for different occasions.  We also have an invisible fence and the dogs have special collars to use with their control with the fence.  I think harnesses are the best choice particularly when training a dog to walk with you, but the training collars (metal) work well also.  I keep one of those in my car to use with my youngest dog when walking her in a high-usage area.  You need to remember to take it off as soon as you are finished with your walk, however, as it can get caught on things and requires constant supervision.  It is better to have the contact point on their back rather than around the neck.
