Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

My goldendoodle Maggie is 10 months And doing great however I have a question about my Shih Tzu

Ares has a terrible raw spot on his leg and it will not heal.  Ares has chewed, licked this spot and will not leave it alone.  Any suggestions as how to treat this would be welcomed.  I know this is a goldendoodle forum but he is Maggie’s big brother.  Thanks

Hi Roy,

What you are describing is typically called a "hot spot", or moist dermatitis, and without treatment, it will become infected. Ares needs to see the vet ASAP.

The most common reason dogs create these hot spots is allergies, but it can also be caused by mites, insect bites, or contact dermatitis. In all cases, the area itches terribly, and that's why the dog licks and bites at it. The vet may or may not be able to determine the cause, but right now it needs treatment. Once it's under control, there are ways to prevent it from happening again, depending on the cause.

I agree, get Aries to the vet immediately.  These "hot spots" can quickly get our of control.

I third the vet suggestion. And, being Maggie’s big brother makes him ours!
