Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

My 3 years old tiny goldendoodle, Pixie eats her breakfast and then drinks a lot of water and quickly - where within the next 15 mins, she vomits her breakfast.

It has happened twice this week with the warmer weather and her need to drink a lot.  I tried to give her little bits at a time this morning, but she kept asking for more water.

She is otherwise happy and healthy - any advice or help?

I would talk to your vet. This is not normal and could be a symptom of disease. It would be worth a conversation, especially in light of Pixie's history of vomiting and digestive problems.

As far as drinking alot of water, I just purchased a slobber stopper bowl from Amazon.  Best thing ever!  Not only does it stop the gulping of water, no more drips on my floor!

Thanks, placed an order!!!

Just curious, what are you feeding her for breakfast?

Thanks! She has Royal Canin Hypoallergenic Kibble.

Have you tried moistening it? I have a girl who won't eat dry food but if I put warm water or broth on it, she will. Maybe it's too dry for your girl.

Look at the list of ingredients.

You can try limiting the water right after she eats, but I really think that you should take her to the vet and discuss it.

Not a good idea to limit a water intake ever, and especially for kibble fed dog.

Absolutely.  Allow the water and stop the kibble.

You know your dog, if she is drinking more than usual it is not a good sign, check her for diabetes. Royal Canin is a very bad feed - all formulas is bad , very low in protein and very bad and cheap ingredients. Check first 5 ingredients -  you don't want to feed that...If you have a little money to spend for your tiny goldendoodle - switch to Primal Raw ( very good ingredients and no synthetic vitamin mix), or switch to recommended kibble and add some water or broth to her meals. Dogs and cats don't eat dry, processed food in nature ...

Since broth has been mentioned a couple of times here, I want to remind everyone that there is NO commercial broth on the market- not organic, not low-sodium, nothing- that does not contain onions, and onions are toxic to dogs. They cause Heinz Body Anemia, which is a potentially fatal disease, also known as Hemolytic Anemia. If you must add broth, make your own.
However, in this particular case, Pixie has a long history of vomiting and loose stools, and therefore I really do think that just moistening or changing food is not the answer.
