Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Hi! I'm new to this website, but I really need advice. My goldendoodle, 13 weeks, is extremely sick. He didn't get all of his shots yet but we still let him out in our backyard because our vet thought it would be okay. I think he ate something outside, and he vomited multiple times throughout the day and wouldn't drink or pee yesterday. So today we took him to the vet and the vet said he was dangerously dehydrated and to give him water and sugar. They aren't sure what it is, but they said as long as there was no diarrhea, it would be fine. However, a few hours ago, he started pooping out diarrhea, and he won't move. He just keeps sleeping. Our family is extremely concerned and we just don't know what to do. Has anyone experienced this with their own doodle before? Advice would be great because we're devastated right now.

I can't believe the vet didn;t give him sub-Q fluids or run any tests. I've never heard of telling someone with a sick puppy who is dehydrated and not eating or drinking to give him water & sugar. You need a different vet.
This really sounds like parvo to me, which is extremely serious and often fatal in puppies. I'd get him to an ER ASAP and get treatment for him.
The vet gave him fluids today and ran tests. We thought it was parvo as well, but the vet says it's just something similar to enteritis, although I don't know if that's any better. I think we need to change our vet as well. Thank you so much for the advice :)
Yes...my vote a different vet. good luck!
ditto Karen- go now
Please let us know what happens. We care.
Any updates. I'm just seeing this but Karen was right on the mark.
I’ve been thinking of this puppy all day. Hoping your pup is okay.

I hope your puppy recovers.
It's really important to supervise puppies outside so that you can prevent them from ingesting anything harmful, and know exactly what they may have gotten into.
Enteritis is definitely better than parvo; just about anything is better than parvo in a young puppy. But it's still dangerous. And it doesn;t just happen, something has to have caused it.
If there is not a drastic improvement today, I would have Xrays done to be sure there isn't a foreign body in the digestive tract. Even if there is not a blockage, that can be very very dangerous.
I wasn't sure if it was enteritis or something like it. Either way I would also have an x-ray, just to rule out a blockage, especially if he is showing no signs of improvement. Then you can focus on the other ways you can get it, like parasites. But I would say don't waste precious time, get it done asap if you haven't already done so. But I might be a little fanatic on that. I had a cat that amost died from an obstruction. He ate a corner of a floor mat we were unaware of. Puppies, they get into everything, if not supervised. It's even worse for one not fully vaxed.
