Harry is a 10 month old golendoodle. For the last 2 months or so, he will drink a lot very quickly and then spit up the water about 30 seconds later. He drinks from a high bowl so he's not stooped over. Other than this, he seems perfectly normal. Should I worry or is he just a greedy drinker?

Aside from this, he has no digestive issues at all? And never has had?

Do you hear his stomach making loud noises after he drinks water?

No noises or any other digestive problems. He doesn't tolerate chicken and will have loose stools if he eats it. Other than that, no issues that we've noticed.

I would try to limit the amount of water that he gets at one time if possible. I'd try to slow down the gulping of large amounts of water. See if that helps.

You also don't want to let him gulp a large amount of water right after exercising. Try giving him smaller amounts of water more frequently.
I don't want to scare you, but regurgitating water immediately after drinking it is an early warning sign of megaesophagus. So if slowing down his water consumption doesn't help, he needs to see a vet.

Thank you. He usually gulps a lot after exercise but doesn't spit up it he drinks a small amount when he's mildly thirsty. I'll make sure to stop the gulping and see if it goes away. Thanks.

Try the slobber stopper bowl on amazon.  It does not completely stop slobbers but it sure slowed Murphy’s drinking down.  She was a greedy drinker also and often spit it back up.

I just looked it up. Great idea, thanks.

The things I learn on this site!

There are bowls that restrict how fast they drink. Usually they are to help you with those dogs who spill water everywhere when they drink.  Our Charlie gulps and snorts and burps after drinking but never throws water up and never has this with eating.  I think the structure of his snout makes it hard for him to lap the water.

I lied about Charlie's noises when eating.  He does make snorting/choking noised when eating - he doesn't throw up thought.

Murphy throws up water (and whatever happens to still be in his stomach) when he drinks too much at one time or too fast.  I have been pretty successful at controlling this by giving him small amounts at a time, especially around meal time.  It sounds strange but I've also found that if the water is really cold he is more likely to spit it up....I bring it to room temp before giving it to him.
