Pillow Bed Patch Repair -- any solutions ?

Well, Teddy has apparently moved on from destroying chew toys and now has moved up into destroying furniture.  Specifically, he put a tiny hole in his otherwise-still functioning foam cushion pillow bed.

Has anybody had this happen to them ?  I usually throw out a $5 toy when Teddy tears it open and gets to the stuffing (I've been buying stuffing-free stuff lately), but my parents gave him this pillow bed and I hate to throw it out for a 1/2" tear in it.

I have Bitter Apple to hit any patch and keep him off it, but does anybody know of something that I can apply that will provide some protection from him easily peeling/tearing it off and re-reaching the stuffing ?  Has to be something better than duct tape that I can buy at a craft store or online or somewhere.

Do you sew by hand? Or have a large eye needle and heavy duty thread?  If possible take cover off and work from inside, making very close tight blanket stitches to hold the wholes "sides" together.  If you cannot get cover off do very tight running stitch both forwards and then backwards with the two "sides" of the whole held together.  Google Blanket stitch or Running stitch and you will be able to find a video that would be better than my description.

If desparate, take it to a tailor, s/he will laugh but fix it for you for about $5-$10.

Alrighty, this lil’ pup is going to enlarge your horizons!  I think you might try to manage the tear without taking off the cover.

You didn’t say if this was a plush bed or a flat fabric, but this would work on the plush fluffy fabric.

Since Teddy might try this again, you can do it!  Just buy a spool of heavy thread and a large hole needle, tie a fat knot in the end after looping it through the eye.  Try thread 18” long to make it easy on you.  Hold needle sideways and poke the needle in and out around the tear— then tug gently until it closes the hole.  Last step is to go sideways poked in and back on top...and use the needle to tie a knot. Do this twice or loop it through twice so it doesn’t come apart.  We all learn from our dogs!  You just never know What :). 

Now if the cover is EASY to remove, go ahead and get the iron on repair for the inside.  I just didn’t want you to have to have “patches” of tape all over the outside.

Sounds like you can repair it and I wouldn't use duct tape as he might chew and swallow it. Be careful with iron on patches as a hot iron can melt the bed fabric and it doesn't solve the problem of him chewing.

My girls have 4 large beds throughout the house, two of the beds  are from Buddy Rest which seem to be their (and my) favorites. The people at Buddy Rest are wonderful too; and the beds are made in the USA!  My first order, they sent a LG by mistake, sent out the XLG right away and a call tag to pick up the other one.  I have 2 of the Crown Supremes and my younger Doodle Yindi (will be 9 thins month) likes to 'dig her nest' and hasn't hurt any of the beds. The older girl, Yarra ( 12 1/2) has arthritis and she loves her beds. They often snuggle up together in one bed.....lol.

If he is destroying his beds, it might be that he has too much freedom at this point and needs more supervision or a crate until he learns. I don't know your circumstances but he could also just be bored.
