Growth on dog's gum

Sorry for the graphic pic.  This is a photo of a friends dog.  She will be calling her vet on Monday for an appointment but I was wondering if anyone has seen this before.  My Oliver has had a canine papilloma but it did not look like this.  Any guesses???

It does look like an oral papilloma. If you google it, a lot of images come up that look just like this, including the grey color. 

But when it comes to growths of any kind, guesses are not useful. I'm glad she is taking him to the vet.

The coloring definitely threw me off.  Oliver's was more round, pink and cabbagy looking.  Thanks for the opinion and have a good night :)
