Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Hi, everyone!! I'm still new to DK so please let me know if I've posted this incorrectly :)
Our puppy, Willy, and almost 1 and weighs 30 lbs. He has been eating Orjen puppy, but we are looking to switch him to a frozen raw diet.
However, we don't want to spend too much money on dog food. We are hoping to spend around $20 a week or less, or about $3 per lbs.
Does anyone have any suggestions of brand that might work? We were thinking about Steve's Real Food but aren't quite sure yet. Thanks in advance!!

Well, I wish you luck. I find it very difficult to figure out feeding amounts and the number of meals per bag or package with the frozen raw products. All I can advise is to research feeding amounts on each manufacturer's websiter and then check pricing.
I'd look into Stella & Chewy's and Nature's Variety frozen patties.
I order from Creston Valley Meats. They deliver every other week. You obviously need enough freezer space. But the quality is great and my dogs love it. Most of the dog food comes in big boxes with little baggies that can easily be defrosted and fed.
Karen, Stella and Chewys is good but it's definitely not inexpensive.
Oh, I know; Jasper gets it as a topper. But I don't think any of the prepared raw products are. The OP mentioned Steve's and their prices are comparable to S & C's, I think.
I don't think any of the prepared raw food is inexpensive. My guys are 68 and 79 lbs and I simply can't afford to feed them raw. So they occasionally get it as a topping.
My Zoey is 25# and I feel her Stella & Chewys frozen raw dinner patties. One 8 oz patty is what is suggested for her weight. That is more like $6/per pound. But sometimes Zoey doesn't eat in the morning, and having that raw defrosted patty hanging around just didn't work for me! lol So I started feeding her the raw topped kibble to her is the morning and the raw patty in the evening. Doesn't cost as much, and she likes it fine. That way one of those large patties lasts 2 days. That may be an options for you and still give your dog a quality food.
