My Allie is a Wimp!

My Goldendoodle Allie is VERY sensitive to ANY kind of pain - it's very disturbing! She starts SCREAMING when something even minor happens. She has been like this from the minute we got her!

When we started our Puppy Socialization class she was SO afraid of the other puppies (1 Great Dane, 1 Rottweiler, 1 Black Lab, 1 beagle mix) and anytime any of them would get near her she would turn towards the wall hoping they wouldn't see her and start that screaming noise!

3 weeks ago she was attacked by a German Shepherd that was off of his leash while we were out on a walk in our neighborhood and she was hurt on her shoulder. This was on a Monday. Our Vet promised us that she would be better on Wednesday 2 days later. Yes - she was better on Wednesday - but not the Wednesday 2 days later - I'm talking a week later! She's a Big Drama Queen!

Sometimes she will run away from something and end up running into the sofa, and she will start screaming because the sofa wasn't supposed to be there!

Does anyone else have a Doodle that LOVES drama, or am I the only one with a Doodle Princess on my hands?

Oh!!! My original point of the message was that Allie will be spayed tomorrow. I was wondering what the healing time was normally - so that I can double it for Allie!!!! ?

Hi, I had Sadie spayed on 1/22. I didn't know that she was very sensitive to pain until I lived with her after her spaying. My vet only gave her one medicine for pain,rimadyl. The day that I brought her home after her overnight stay she was fine. But that evening she totally freaked out in pain, acute pain. We ended up in the vet emergency hospital and she had to get a shot of morphine. The emergency vet said that my vet didn't really give her pain meds only what is the equivalent of aspirin. She gave me a stonger paid med called Tramadol and a sedative called Ace. Ask your vet for these two additional meds in case Allie does have lots of pain. And, ask you vet to tell you the symptoms of acute pain. (dilated pupils, inability to be still, trying to get outside, crying, wailing, whimpering). I think that some vets (mine) are not expecting the dog who has pain or a low tolerance for pain. Good luck.

Oh, that's a shame! I have two toughies, so that would be scary to have a screaming doggie!

My cockapoo is apricot and tough as a mack truck, lol. He doesn't make a peep even when my LD is dragging him around by his ear!

Dexter is a HUGE wimp. He cries all the time. He has twisted a paw a bit before and you would swear his leg was going to fall off. If I ever heard Kirby cry I would rush him to the vet - he has clearly twisted paws in play before and you never hear a peep out of him!

Dexter got scared in class last week by our instructor stomping her foot - he literally jumped up into my lap. He also jumps into my lap at the vet.

He is definitely a drama king :)

LOL - That sounds JUST like Allie! And when she does twist her paw a bit she limps for days!!!! Then when she does start running around again - it's like she forgot that she was supposed to be "hurt"

She might grow out of it. I know Lola had this problem on her first trip to the dog park. It was so overwhelming for her, but now she is used to it. However, Lola does have a high pain tolerance. When I accidently step on her tail she just stares at me while I freak out and apologize and giver he all sorts of love. She is one of the whiniest dogs I have met for no reason. She just whines and looks at me, but I don't know what she wants. It's not like she doesn't get enough attention, and she has doggie doorbells that she used to use but I guess she like whining better.
