Toby is doing much better, but the shaved area on his abdomen is a little red and irritated. He wants to scratch it with his back legs while standing. He's not licking, just trying to scratch. How can I soothe this irritation for him?
OR, if you're near a Trader Joe's or any natural type store, get some Aloe Vera gel. It's good to have on hand anyway for soothing skin problems that come up.
Thanks. We're in Ontario, Canada, and I don't think we have Trader Joe's anywhere. He seems a little better today, but I'll keep that in mind if it seems to be acting up again.
Actually Sandy, you want to try and keep the area dry.....( I tried aloe vera after a grooming incident when Blake was clipper burned and it made it worse)......A medicated powder seems to work best....PS..Itching is an indication that the healing has begun........

Thanks. I phoned the vet, and they too told me it was preferred to use nothing, since putting something on often makes the animal want to lick. Toby's been quite good with not licking, but wants to scratch. He's starting to gain some momentum....the next few days could be interesting. :)

He's also trying to lick more today than he has up until now, so I assume things are starting to heal over. I'd let him go without his "t-shirt" up until now, but I had to put it back on. We can't have any licking! :)
