This morning we made waffles - the real kind with the waffle maker and batter, etc. This is the first time we have made waffles since we adopted Bodi. He became VERY excited. He doesn't normally beg for food or show much interest in what we are eating, but this morning he would have liked a chair at the kitchen table! Obviously Bodi has had waffles with his previous owner! (and yes, we gave him some although we try not to give him people food!)

Has anyone discovered something their doodle remembers from their first home?

They remember everything and a sound, a smell or a movement can bring it back to them. Especially if they endured some awful things like many of our RESCUED DOODLES have.
Hadn't thought about the bad things - only good, since Bodi was OK at his former home. I was watching tv the other night and a doorbell rang. Bodi ran barking to the back door - we don't have a doorbell back there . . . .must have been at his former house.

My parents rescued Viszla is afraid of everything . . . . especially men. Why do people hurt such sweet animals?
We can never understand that. We can't change what happened before they came to us, we can only make the rest of their lives good. In children, their formative years are the earliest. It is the same with dogs. It is hard to know how their experiences will surface later. There are many people out there who do not see dogs as loving family members and do not treat them with the love that we do. Look at the horrific stories and pictures of puppy mills. How can anyone treat any living thing like that? But they don't see pets, they see a crop or a commodity. Money. Not the way we do.

Our first rescue dog (not a doodle), barked at the door every time a door bell rang on TV... we didn't have a door bell.
