Spaying complications

My Misty, who will be 6 months old tomorrow, was spayed on March 9th and she hasn't been herself since. She went in at 40 lbs. and she's already down to 35 lbs. She's lethargic and throwing up (not as much now, as before) She also isn't eating her dog food at all. She'll eat other stuff we give her, but sometimes she even refuses steak. She hasn't had a bowel movement since Monday (4 days ago). The vet has been monitoring her and he's giving her shots of antibiotic every 2 days. I'm starting to wonder if she has some sort of allergic reaction to the antibiotic. I'm so worried about her. Has anyone dealt with this, in the past, with their baby girl? I just want to see her get excited about something.

Karen-all I know is that removing part of the liver is done all the time in humans. From what I have been told-it actually grows back. It is a very forgiving organ. I also have heard that after surgery-some humans have complications where their bowel becomes twisted and another operation is necessary to correct this. This must be so hard for you! I am praying for Misty's recovery. My male dog will be neutered next week at six months old-so I will be watching him closely.

I have a dachshund that survived hemolytic anemia. She had transfusions, surgeries, biopsies, bone marrow aspirations - medical procedures galore. She came through it and is a fine 8 year old doxie. I am praying for good news for you! I know what it is like to wait for news from the vet!

Was really sorry to read about Mistys illness. Hopefully, this surgery has fixed the problem and she begins to get better. Have you contacted your vet to tell tham what has been going on? It sounds like they should have been more proactive when she didn't recover normally from the first surgery. Hugs to you, and to Misty.

OMGoodness Karen, did they say what was wrong with the liver????????? And I AGREE with Stella. I think I would find another vet, he should of been more aggressive in treatiing Misty. When complications turn up after a surgery of any kind, the vet should immediately be checking to see what is going wrong. AND NOT waiting until 2 weeks later. Poor Misty could of died. I am sure she is going to be OK now Karen. I look at her innocent face and she is sooo sweet, she just has to be OK. Will be awaiting more information, Hang in there !!!!!!!!!!!

I've been reading on the sidelines & thank you so much for keeping us in the loop despite being on tenterhooks yourself. The liver & kidneys are both resilient organs, especially in the young so hopefully things will continue to swing upwards from here on out. Oski sends Misty a big wet slurp & we'll be sending positive vibes your way :)

Well, here is my Misty update. She made it the 24 hours. The specialist did another ultrasound and the liver looks good. Her kidney values are steadily getting lower. Still high, but on the right track. She also tested negative for Addison's, so no lifetime meds. I'm still nervous, but she is definitely in good hands.
I want to thank all of you for being so supportive and caring. You all have been my therapy through this. The funny thing is, I didn't even know this website existed, until a couple of days before Misty had her spay. A couple approached me at Petsmart (I had Misty with me) and told me about Doodle Kisses.

Sounds like she is recovering. What a nightmare this must have been for you. They are just like our children but I am so happy to hear she is recooperating so nicely. The members of doodle kisses are amazing and have helped me so much.
