Hi there! I have recently had an issue with Pongo eating his poo! Admittedly only a little bit, but nevertheless enough to put me off letting him 'kiss' me!!! Anyway, we went to the Vets today for his second vaccination and I asked her for advice. She suggested putting something like Hot Chilli Sauce on the poo so that he would attempt to taste it and really not like it!! This is called Taste Aversion... just thought I'd share this with you all!
Fingers crossed!

Although disgusting to us, this is not unusual for puppies. They see their moms clean up after them when they are young, so this is natural for them to also want to "clean up" after themselves.

Taste aversion is one of the quickest ways to rid your pup of this habit, but I would suggest pineapple! Putting pineapple in your pup's food (just a small amount) is healthy for him, but has a horrid tase after it is digested, and is the perfect way for him to want to avoid his poo. After a while, you can ween him from the pineapple in the food. GL :)
Hi Tamara, thank you for that helpful advice... I reckon thats what I'll do..! I'll let you know how we get on! :)
I used pineapple when this started happening and it worked like a charm!! However, FRESH pineapple worked best. I couldn't always be in the yard to put the hot sauce or whatever on the poo.... I highly recommend the pineapple!
Hi Leann, thank you for your reply, he's just eaten his dinner with a few chunks of chopped (tinned) pineapple on top.... he absolutely LOVED it!! Hopefully this will work despite not being fresh pineapple... I'll let you know! Thanks again :)
I have been using 2 Tbsps of plain yogurt on his food and that works...something to do with getting rid of the bacteria in his system...I know this works because I forgot to buy yogurt this week and he's "snacking" again....Hope this helps
Hi Gail, thats an interesting point about the yoghurt, I haven't heard that before. I've just tried Pongo with pineapple on top of his food and he certainly loved the taste ... hopefully he won't love the taste once it comes out the other end!!! Thank you for your suggestion, I will certainly try it and let you know! :)
My Bindi is doing the same thing....I have been running to her side since getting her 3 weeks ago to keep her from doing this. I will try the pineapple to! Thanks!!
Pongo is on his second meal with pineapple topping!! He is absolutely loving the taste! He's eating all his dinner up too which is great because before he would eat in dribs and drabs but now it looks like he might eat his whole meal in one go which is obviously a good thing! Let me know how you get on with Bindi Boo!! Good luck!
