Hi! Ok, so I think I've found a good food...Nature's Variety. Now, I just need to know the best places in terms of cost to buy it. Is it cheaper to buy in chain stores, online, or mom-and-pop places? Or are the higher-end dog foods like Mac products: uniform pricing. Is there any particular place you'd recommend, especially online or in the metro-atlanta area? Thanks!

Nature's variety Paririe is one of the foods I use, also. I buy almost all of Jack's food & supplies at Pet Supplies Plus. I don't know if they are in your area, but they have the best selection of premium foods and natural, US made treats, as well as all other types of pet supplies, toys, etc. I find their prices to be better than the "boutique" stores.
Awesome! I have a Pet Supply Plus right next to my Kroger. Literally, right next door! But I've never been in it. Go figure... Guess I know my task of the day... Thanks!
I am also considering changing my dood to this brand as she's really picky and after reading a lot of these posts, i've decided definitely to switch her off of nutro. Are there any particular flavors that your doodles really like? My Savannah turns her nose up to virtually every food i've had her on....I was also considering fromm foods as well. Any experience with that?
Jackdoodle is arguably the pickiest dog on the face of the planet, and he eats both Nature's Variety Prairie and Fromm Four Star. He particularly loved the Fromm from the first day. However, he is very unusual in his tastes...he is a fish addict, and looooves the salmon varieties in both. A lot of dogs don't like fish. I'd say, try the flavor that you were using in the Nutro. If you were feeding lamb, buy the lamb version of the new food; if chicken, buy the chicken flavor, etc. Both these foods are available in 5 lb bags, so you don't have to waste a lot of money if Savannah doesn't like it, and they are both designed to rotate among the different flavors if desired.
Thanks Karen and Jack! I value your input, as I see you're a very frequent contributor here, and have done TONS of research to benefit us all. I will keep you posted on how Vanny likes her new food. She is finishing up a bag of california natural (in an attempt to find something other than nutro!) that she is begrudingly eating if i mix some soup broth or eggs into it! Thanks so much!
It never hurts to add a little fresh food on top of the kibble...boiled or scrambled egg, a little plain cooked beef or chicken, canned or cooked salmon or other fish, or just flavoring with low-sodium broth as you said. The eggs or fish are particularly good for adding EFA's to the diet.
Thank you for the kind words. We are all in this together! Good luck ...please do keep us posted.
PS: for a laugh, or to blow off a little steam about your picky girl, read my "Come Have a Little Whine With Me" discussion here in the Food Group.
Thank you all for recommending Pet Supply Plus! Mine actually doesn't have Nature's Variety, but they have almost every other 5 star food under the sun! And at fairly reasonable prices. So, thank you!
Well i made the switch to Prairie! They were having a $5 off sale at superpetz and I was able to get 2 bags...the venison and the chicken so that Vannah could sample them. Well, she did not eat anything for breakfast this morning (being the picky girl she is), so after our afternoon walk, i gave her a little of the venison kind...she LOVED it! Thanks for the great recommendation. let's keep our fingers crossed that Savannah will be excited about meal times and doesn't require me to always add "toppings" to her food...it can be a bit hectic at 7 am! Does anyone have suggestions for switching cats with a slight weight problem to a similar food?
